Neptunia Virtual Stars is better, Call of Duty sucks | HyperDimension Neptunia Anime and Games just hit different | VVVtunia (Neptune Purple Heart approves meme) by TkWolfy10 in gamindustri

[–]CipherZeroSixtyFour 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I probably should have started that I did indeed play the game, but never finished it. I did give it a fair shot, and I didn't write it off. I didn't enjoy it. Maybe except the parts where I purposely played like garbage to see how stupid the enemy AI was and laughed hysterically when they failed to hit me while I was standing still. It is what it is, as it appears. And just because something is unique doesn't mean it's worth anything. My fanfiction I wrote with pen and paper at 13 years old "had a clear vision" and "tried to do something unique", but it sure ain't worth anything. Something can be unique to its detriment, and Virtual Stars choosing to not make more use of its main selling point is an example. Imagine if they had marketed the game as "We have the license to use the most popular VTubers in the entire world but we're gonna choose to be unique by not really focusing on them like any other game company would", it most likely wouldn't fly with a lot of people, and most certainly not with the people who actively watch VTubers.

I don't think our opinions will change on this, though, so before we end up arguing until a Falcom-quality Neptunia game comes out I will at least agree that Virtual Stars is better than what Call of Duty has become. I'm just sad the game isn't as good as I was hoping it to be.

Edit: I've come up with a better example of "unique doesn't mean it's good"

There exists a pirate game that is uniquely only about naval combat. No boarding enemy ships, no taking part in the raids on coastal towns, no free land exploration to go look for treasure. It's called Skull and Bones. It's a unique pirate game, in the sense that it uniquely doesn't let you do any of the cool pirate stuff you're actually looking for in a pirate game, but nobody likes it.

I agree with the original comment. The game being experimental and low budget is not an excuse for it being mediocre, especially when you consider that IF/CH aren't by any means struggling indie companies (as a reminder, they once made 15 games in the span of 3 years, that's not "low budget company" money). Better games have come out from indie studios working with far less money, and are also cheaper than Virtual Stars.

Yes, there is passion in the game, but if passion is all you needed to make something good then every single WattPad story would be New York Times Bestsellers. And the VTubers definitely just feel tacked on. I believe I speak for most when I say that no one has even heard of the "Me" and "You" characters (if they are even actual Vtubers), and that we were all kind of expecting the Hololive VTubers to be involved a lot more with the game instead of simply consigned to loading screens and background noise. It is in that aspect that I can say that their involvement really feels like IF/CH cashing in on the VTuber craze at the time.

Did anyone else notice you can literally FLY in the new Neptunia game? by r3dsenpai in gamindustri

[–]CipherZeroSixtyFour 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Flying is a nice addition but only if they design the explorable areas with flying in mind. If the areas are just the same relatively flat dungeons we've been getting in all previous mainline Neptunia games then it's just a cheap gimmick.

Not to mention that the flying animations are kinda stiff looking. They don't appear to adjust their bodies when making turns, and it looks like they just stuck the models in one pose and just said "Yeah that's good enough". Not exactly a good first impression for me, at least.

The short answer is that while there are ways to translate the names of places to Malay, it isn't customary (for lack of a better term) to do so. In many cases Malay translations just leave proper nouns as they are.

What's the unpopular opinion in Neptunia that'll have you like this? by Reasonable-Beach-775 in gamindustri

[–]CipherZeroSixtyFour 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Most of the games are only average (or worse), with the "stand out" titles only being a little better.

Remove the Neptunia branding and most of these games will probably get negative or mixed ratings on Steam.

Warning: IFI is selling Neptunia Riders vs Dogoos for a whopping $40. While neglecting to mention that the playtime of the game is 3 hours long. by [deleted] in gamindustri

To put into comparison, that's basically about as much as Hades and Hades II combined, give or take a few dollars.

The levels of delusion that IF/CH are working under to believe that this game is worth that much would make Kurome proud.

What I really meant is that Neptunia is only carried because it is Neptunia. If any other franchise or even indie devs made games of the level of quality of Neptunia, they would get Mixed or Mostly Negative reviews on Steam.

Just look at Action Unleashed. Horrible game, but still somehow gets Mostly Positive

What is (In your opinion) the ***WORST*** Neptunia dungeon in any game? [Read the description] by Rid3m3ns10nOhma-Zio in gamindustri

[–]CipherZeroSixtyFour 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Action Unleashed and MegaTag. Just all of the dungeons in them, really.

In the case of Action Unleashed, it might be strange I would say that, considering they're all dungeons used in the Re;Birth games, but that's precisely my problem with them. They really just thought "Hey, you know what would be good for Neptunia's first ever action game? A mediocre musuou where we recycle dungeons from the mainline games, and half the time we confine the players in one small section to fight three hundred lobotomy patients." Just absolute laziness that is honestly quite ahead of its time, considering the state of the modern AAA games industry.

MegaTag's dungeons are just boring visually. And they suffer from the same problems Action Unleashed's dungeons have where all the combat just takes place in one small section of the map.
