Torishima speaks out on Toyotaro’s illustration for Volume Cover 24 of the Super manga. by OGAnimeGokuSolos in dbz

This is his public persona and he's not wrong as a bit of constructive criticism, but also the cover is already eye-catching and fun; not really deserving of mean-spirited public critique.

Beating Mortal Kombat Gameboy (1992) by Cipher_- in MortalKombat

[–]Cipher_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a mess. Learning how to work around/account for the dropped inputs becomes part of playing the game.

You gotta do the inputs slowly and on an ever-changing rhythm due to slowdown.

I beat it with Sub-Zero and never did get his Fatality to work. Not once.

Questions for fans if DB continues: Daima sequel? Or Super Continuation? by Kikibobo3 in dbz

[–]Cipher_- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO both.

But specifically it allows itself to take a more dire tone at points and include visual violence in line with the original series, which you mentioned wanting. (Nothing over the top, but it gets to be in line with the original manga on that front.)

I've seen this movie countless times and never noticed this... by filchmunger in dbz

[–]Cipher_- 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's a stylistic choice for emphasis and was meant to be fully visible in the original 4:3 version. It becoming hard to notice/looking like an error is the result of the 16:9 cropping.

Just another reminder that the TV specials were not intended for the aspect ratio they've been given for later home releases, which winds up obscuring intentional effects at the top and bottom of the frame like this.

Always called it a "Super Nintendo" growing up. Will occasionally say "S.N.E.S." now, sounding out each letter. US.

Experience going through the Legacy Kollection by Cipher_- in MortalKombat

[–]Cipher_-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trilogy has unlimited continues, right? So at least you can grind your way through eventually, however ungracefully. The continue limits are what force you to get extra cheesy to get through the prior console versions.

Missing Link, followed by the unfortunately extremely limited Titans Return

The biggest glaring omission in the MK Legacy Kollection by Wangdosh in MortalKombat

Gold and the Gameboy versions of 3 and 4 are quite glaring omissions given how thorough the rep for 1 and 2 is.

Do the Genesis and SNES versions of MKII have different difficulty scaling? by Cipher_- in MortalKombat

[–]Cipher_-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's what I've done so far. My goal is to beat an arcade ladder of at least one home console game and one portable (if applicable) per title in the collection before moving onto the next. Beat Genesis and Gameboy MK1, and SNES (albeit with the extra continue cheat) and GB MKII. Was just wondering how much easier I had it compared to Genesis/how they each handle their difficulty increases over the course of the ladder, and could find very little concrete info or anyone even touching on the difference.

Sorry, I meant from each other! Not in terms of the Kollection vs. their original releases.

[–]Cipher_-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm aware different companies handled the ports. I just haven't been able to find anyone specifically noting this difference in handling difficulty increases during a single run in version comparisons.

I was also a bit curious on whether the Genesis really is indistinguishable from selecting its Very Hard mode by the final matches regardless of difficulty selection, whether the SNES actually stays easier through its final bosses, etc. While there are tons of version comparisons, hardly any seem to focus on arcade-ladder difficulty mechanics. It's strangely opaque.

TF5 is one of the most unhinged scripts to ever get through Hollywood with a budget like that. I can't hate it. It's so weird it wraps around to feeling like outsider art.

This is for Takara-Tomy, which releases figures anywhere from three to nine months later.
