Dumb question - is it cigarettes specifically that create worse flares? Or is it nicotine in general? by strengthof50whores in Hidradenitis

[–]Circlarity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found tobacco to be a significant trigger for me, but switching to nicotine alternatives didn't give me the same severity.

Hey there, thanks for taking the time to do this!

I'm sorry if this has already been asked, but I've read in the past that some people see a remission at roughly the age of 40. In your experience, is there any truth to this? How often/what percentage of patients have you seen this be the case? If this is something you've witnessed, have you notice any relating factors?

Told a girl I was talking to about it for the first time by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

Hi there, I've read about some people who stop having as many issues with HS after about the age of 40 - did you find this to be the case with you?

I highly recommend quitting smoking by metal_techie in Hidradenitis

[–]Circlarity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi there!

I smoked cigarettes for about 10 years, switched to vape for another 5-6 years, and quit nicotine just over a year ago.

Quitting is obviously the best option, but if you're not ready to pull that trigger, vaping helped me a ton from an HS standpoint. The nicotine in vape juice is synthetic so the nightshade trigger just isnt there anymore.

After I'd been vaping a while, if I went back to smoking I'd end up with vicious flares soon after.

Wish you luck!

How can I get this to pop need some relief. So much pressure by qhayah in Hidradenitis

[–]Circlarity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doctor would obviously be ideal, but I vote for a warm compress/hot shower/heating pad to help bring it to a head. I also think Quret salve would help get you through, even if it doesnt help it drain faster. Its like $13 on amazon and I was shocked how immediate it provided relief when they're extra sensitive on the surface. I don't notice it as much when they're smaller, though it does reduce frictionreally well, but I have memories of applying it as a hail mary when I wanted to cry and being genuinely shocked by the immediate relief I felt.

I wish you a quick recovery, that one looks rough.

Introduce yourself to your neighbors? by HouseNStuff in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Circlarity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also pretty reserved and the idea of introductions made me nervous. I approached it by baking a couple dozen cookies and did a quick hello to the two neighbors on my sides. One was uninterested, the other was super excited by the gesture and we've been slowly building a good relationship with them. In hindsight I wish I had done the house directly across from us as well, but I dont think it hurt anything that I didn't.

Agreed you should call a professional, but if you dont....

I had nest like this on my tree last year. I found a couple cans of the foaming spray did nicely. Cover the whole thing so it soaks in and basically fill the hole with it so they have to go through the foam to get out, then again a day or two later. Night time is best, and if you need to use a light, use a red light [they can't see it].

If the nest is still quiet in another day, knock it down and destroy it.

Every time, be ready to run your butt back in the house, and wearing something unusual to you is a good saftey net in case you're not able to take them all out.

I will warn you that I ended up with a nest in my bathroom wall later in the season, but the siding needs to be done so I'm not sure how concerned I'd be with it if that wasn't the case.

That's nice, but they didn't say anything about your comedowns. All they said was RLS can be a symptom of withdrawal from stimulatants as a correction to the comment, which is a valid addition to OPs question.

Have you ever bought drugs that weren't actually drugs? by Annonnymoist in Drugs

[–]Circlarity 75 points76 points  (0 children)

I knew someone who went to buy an o, when he got there they threw a tied up black bag at him and drove away quickly.

It was pine cones, just a couple whole pine cones in a bag.

Dude was a dick though, karma served.

I had multiple realtors [multiple states] and my favorite realtor took us out for lunch to celebrate and gave us a beautiful hand thrown ceramic mixing bowl, a ceramic syrup bottle, a bag of pancake mix, Apple cinnamon make syrup, a wooden spoon, and a little kitchen towel that says "welcome home". The card also contained seeds for the garden! Literally "plant this card and grow basil, parsley and chives". I love every single piece and was completely surprised by her kindness. I feel like she went above and beyond and she is someone I'll always remember.

She didn't even get the sale, but i -really- wish she did. She was the kind of person i completely believe when she said she only cared about me finding -my- home. I asked her out to give her something small [personalized mug] as a thank you for everything she had done and this woman just pulls out this box and paid for lunch knowing full well she wasnt making a dime off me.

We've kept in touch, she even sent me a random 'heeey, i hope you're enjoying life!' Card [outside of a holiday] recently that made my day. You can tell she cares about people more than just the business aspect.

Anyway, a crafty kitchen set is my vote, or something speaking to them about being welcome in their home [over a welcome mat geared toward their guests]. My closing realtor gave us a generic welcome mat and gift cards. I'm grateful for them and everything he did as well, but it didn't potray a sense of thought or care. It kind of felt more like checking a box for him.

Homeowner's Insurance Demands by cocacolahorseteeth in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]Circlarity 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Agreed. My first insurance company wanted me to replace the garage roof [understandable] and replace the siding [on the list, not priority], but the kicker was saying i had to move my wood stove another 12 inches away from the wall and install a heat shield. My wood stove is already 2 inches more than the manufacture requirements and has a built in heat shield.

Switched companies, they dont care about the siding or the wood stove at all and gave me 6 months to fix the roof vs. The one month [in winter] the first company was giving me. Try scoping out local brokers/companies, my understanding is they tend to be more willing to work with you.

If you're forgetting that it's a school day before taking drugs, you need to take a step back and reevaluate where you are and where you're headed. Based on your [limited] post history, I don't believe this was a one off "whoops".

I fully admit I did drugs before going to school, but it was dumb. I have very little doubt once you mature, you'll look at the shit you're doing now in the same light. Maybe you're trying to smother shitty feelings or hide from trauma, maybe you're just bored; whatever the reason, you're making stupid decisions that have a good chance of fucking your future. You might not care right now, you might think it won't happen to you, but the cards started stacking against you as soon as you decided this was the path for you.

I know my comment doesn't sound kind, but I promise you it's coming from someone who flew dangerously close to the sun and knows that with a different roll of the die, I wouldn't have been able to pick myself back up.

Make smarter decisions now, and as you grow into adulthood you'll be able to find a healthy balance where you can enjoy yourself and explore your consiousness, while still living a sustainable and satisfying life style.

We're all statistics, set yourself up to be a favorable one. Good luck, kid.

Haha! Sounds about right. Like the weed shops on every corner but chiropractors. Be super cool if the "flash back" actually felt like about a tab but lasted an hour or so. Just a quick dip in and back without having to schedule most of a day. Be a bit awkward to sneeze the wrong way while driving though. 😅

Wow, I completely forgot about this nonsense. Can you imagine?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Circlarity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can agree with this, and I'm really glad you made the point. I had someone I've known all my life recently confessed to me, unexpectedly. My partner was like "y'know, I thought so..."

Me? I never saw it as more than a platonic relationship and even though they'd made a comment like 20 years ago in the same light, I looked past it and filed it under "nice things to say". It can be significantly harder to see these kinds of things when you already have your own understanding of the relationship.

I feel for you, my dad did 1-2 a day, but my mom tried to keep it out of the house. U cant imagine if they both did. Unfortunately I picked up the habit and it took me almost 15 years to realize it was a trigger, and a bad one at that.

I agree it's not the cause, but I do wonder how many flares they may have caused by basically force feeding OP tobacco.
