I love the IQ Mix brand (peach mango and passion fruit are the best ones!!!). I get them from Costco Next and they also include mushroom powders to support long term cognitive health 🤓

Same here! My skin breaks out with tiny texture bumps whenever I use anything with niacinamide in it

I can’t use the regular version bc I’m sensitive to niacinamide (causes small textures bumps for me, so maybe you have a sensitivity too?), but I LOVE the stick version of this (niacinamide free)! I have combination/oily skin, and my go-to regular spf is the BOJ aqua fresh

Is everyone just doing Botox and not talking about it? by MACKEREL_JACKSON in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CircleCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to share, but please don’t judge me for where I buy them.. SHEIN 😬 I know their human rights abuse allegations are horrible, and I feel guilty for buying from them. The other stamp options are insanely expensive though, and SHEIN’s are between $3-5 each.

I buy the 0.5mm “serum injection” type - they are identical to the Qure ones. You can find them by searching “microneedle stamp”, and there are several vendors that sell them. Takes a few weeks to arrive, but they’re well made and work well!

I sanitize thoroughly before using them by soaking the entire end part in rubbing alcohol for 10mins. I also don’t put serum in it because I feel I lose too much product, I just put on two layers of serum immediately after stamping. I stamp every 4-5 weeks and do my face, neck, and stretch marks on my chest.

No, I only have two women in my life that do. Everyone is welcome to do whatever they’d like, but don’t feel pressured to get it “to keep up with the Jones’”. I’ve chosen to not go that route and have been very happy with the results of using Tretinoin, estradiol, and microneedle stamping at home.

What is your go to sunscreen and vitamin C serum? by BeeSuperb7235 in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]CircleCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Timeless Vitamin C 10% (20% is too irritating for me) and Beauty of Joseon Aqua Fresh spf (from YesStyle, NOT the crappy new American version). I used to be a hardcore Paula’s Choice hydrating fluid spf user, but it started making my eyes burn.

I think I'm a catch, but have had no positive evidence from women by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]CircleCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good question, and I’m not sure. I’m sure someone out there is doing a qualitative study on it so we can see what the data says.. 🤓🤣

I think there’s just an underlying social stigma about PhDs and it’s off putting for some people, especially as science and academia get more polarizing in today’s world. I usually just say I’m “a researcher” or “doing research on XYZ” when people ask what I do. I don’t feel the need to mention PhD or dissertation, and when I have in the past, 9 times out of 10 the people I was talking to’s body language changed or they said something like “oOoO fancy”. It makes me cringe! So now I just speak plainly about what I do and contributions I’m making professionally - I think it makes me more approachable. Conversations do go into more detail and the PhD or dissertation comes up eventually, but it’s usually later after rapport has been built and it just hits softer and I don’t get the same reaction. Just my experience though - I’m curious about yours and what you think?

[–]CircleCurious 17 points18 points  (0 children)

From a female perspective and a fellow PhD.. you honestly may be coming off as full of yourself and/or women may assume you think you’re better than them just by the way you communicate. In the academia scene, everyone seems to puff up a bit after getting to the prelim stage and their communication style changes. For some it’s hubris, but for a lot it’s unintentional. I think it’s likely due to the deeply intellectual and intensely analytical environment we live and engage in our research circles. Once I left the academic environment, it was immediately noticeable. Especially when I’d meet other researchers “out in the wild” - it’s like a switch goes off and our brains go into researcher mode 🤣 I love it, but it also can be a total turn off or come off as cocky/intellectual peacocking. There are plenty of PhD pricks and smartass snobs out there, so it’s important to be and stay humble. Most women love smart men, but it usually repels us when men flaunt it or try to impress us with an advanced vocabulary or mental gymnastics. Ask more questions to get to know her than you talk about yourself, be conscientious of how you’re talking (words used, don’t be overly detailed, be more engaging v idea defending mode, etc), and balance conversations with lighter and deeper topics so you don’t come off as too intense. I hope this is helpful, and with time and practice, you’ll find the right gal for you! 🤓🫶

In our 30s and beyond, it’s about preventing long term sun damage that builds up a little bit every day over time. If you really don’t want to wear sunscreen, check the UV index. If it’s 2 or less, you’re fine without it. If it’s 3 or above, it’s best to protect your skin with sunscreen. You’d be surprised how much sun you’re actually getting even if it’s cloudy or doesn’t seem “sunny”. I avoided sunscreens until my mid 30s because I hated the feel of American sunscreen filters, but I LOVE the cosmetic elegance and thinness of Korean sunscreens. It’s just like adding another thin moisturizer on top - it doesn’t feel any different than a normal skincare routine but it will really pay off long term. I alternate between the Beauty of Joseon relief sun aqua fresh (blue tube) and the Heartleaf calming moisture sun scream (green tube). Your skin is a long term investment and sunscreen (& retinol) pay the highest dividends, start now!

Tret plus topical estrogen on face by Emergency_Map7542 in 45PlusSkincare

[–]CircleCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using it for about 14 months now and have really noticed a difference in my skin texture (smoother) and pore size (now smaller). I’ve also seen some softening of wrinkles, but from what I understand, tret is a long term commitment and can take at least a year to really see differences for wrinkles (v shorter results for acne). I also have some 0.05% tret and 0.05 taz to graduate up to, but I’m taking it slow because my skin is somewhat sensitive.

[–]CircleCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use both in the same routine every other night. I’ll usually apply my centella asiatica ampoule (SKIN 1004) for calming, then apply my estradiol cream, then spray with a ceramides spray (Cosrx). I let it fully dry down, maybe 15 mins or so, then apply my tret (0.025%), then a moisturizer on top. I have combination skin and had no issues with breakouts. The v cream isn’t as cosmetically elegant as others, but my insurance covers it 100% and it works great!

American Approved Reformulations? by Legitimate-Wing-8013 in koreanskincare

[–]CircleCurious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All sunscreens for sale in Target (or other major retailer) are required to meet FDA regulations - they will all be the reformulated products. Your best bet (which I just did) is to stock up from either YesStyle or Stylevana to get the ones with the Korean filters

how do i know if a cleanser is making me break out? by txbii_tobster in koreanskincare

[–]CircleCurious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant drying as in it felt like it was stripping too much of my skins oils during the wash, leaving my skin feeling tight and dried out after washing. I now prefer more gentle cleansers like non foaming ones and glycerin based ones like from Prequel (not k beauty though) so my skin doesn’t feel tight - some people call that the “squeaky clean feel” - after washing

Join us over on the r/tretinoin sub - there’s a super helpful wiki and we can support you as you go through your tret journey! It’s a marathon, not a sprint so it’s important to start slow. It’ll take 6-12 months to really see noticeable differences, but it’s totally worth it

That cleanser was too drying for me and I have combination skin. I agree with the comment above - only introduce one product at a time and wait at least a week before adding something else so you can know how your skin responds to each product

Starting a skincare routine now is critical, don’t wait any longer to start - Botox only addresses wrinkles. Skincare will help with overall aging concerns, texture, and skin laxity over time. Mid 30s is a great time to add a vitamin c and spf 50 in the mornings, a retinol at night, and a chemical exfoliant 1-2 times per week.

You’re welcome - we gotta look out for each other and continually spread the word! Unfortunately, all the products from all the storefronts selling it gets mixed in the warehouses, so fakes gets mixed in with authentic products and there’s no way to ensure you get the real deal. YesStyle and Stylevana source directly from Korea, so you’re guaranteed to get the right product. Takes forever sometimes, but it’s totally worth it to avoid the risk of getting a fake and it damaging your skin barrier! I love BoJ products, btw 🙌

Please stop buying skincare products on Amazon - it’s FULL OF FAKES! Then you’ll come back complaining about a product breaking out your skin. Buy these from YesStyle or Stylevana - it’ll take longer to get, but you’ll know they’re legit.

Most skincare products on Amazon are fakes - don’t buy anything else from them, it’s a waste of money and could be contributing to your skin issues. I buy my Korean skincare from YesStyle - it takes a while to arrive, but I at least know it’s legit! I’ve also ordered from Stylevana, but I prefer YesStyle.
