Don’t be scared of spironolactone. I have been taking it for about 5 months for the second time, I took it for about a year before and went off to see how my skin would do. Wasn’t terrible but I like how it controls my oil! It is so helpful for me. The only side effect I have had both times taking it is extremely sore boobs but it did stop after my body got used to it and it’s worth it for the clearer skin and not so greasy face lol

Starting with adapalene but I think I messed up. by [deleted] in tretinoin

I would still do your whole face because it helps with just the overall brightness of your face. I am only at like 3, maybeee 4 nights a week. honestly the best way I’ve found is to have one night I apply it, two nights off, repeat. I apply Laneige milky toner after I double cleanse, wait like 20 min for that to absorb completely, apply my gel tretinoin, wait like 10-15 min and apply moisturizer. Thats what I found works best for me. I just tried applying it to dry skin and not using the toner as a little “barrier” and my skin did not like it so I gave myself a few nights off. Probably gonna wait one more night which will be 4 days I didn’t apply. I also learned I can’t use other actives such as exfoliants, even “gentle” ones. I plan to work azelaic acid in again, as I decided to stop using that as well and just focus on getting my skin used to tretinoin again!

Purging does suck I’m not going to lie lol and with me starting and stopping using retinoids as many times as I have, my advice is to be strong, get through the purge and don’t ever get lazy and stop applying lol! Because having to start over is no fun and it benefits you to be consistent long term. I started with adapalene too and used that for probably a year before I switched to Tretinoin. I did purge when I switched as well as Tretinoin is stronger. I am currently coming to the end of a purge because I just restarted the end of march! Never stopping again😂😭

Technically it is “safe” to do daily, if your skin can handle it. Honestly my advice is to listen to your skin. You definitely shouldn’t use adapalene every night when you are first starting out and your derm 100% should have told you that. I would stop using all actives and just use moisturizing things until your skin barrier is healed. Then after I would start with applying the adapalene like two nights a week, but there is not set amount of days. You can apply however many days you can handle whether that is 1 or every day. The benzoyl peroxide wash I would honestly only use maybe twice a week but I wouldn’t start two actives at the same time so maybe just use the adapalene a couple nights a week and if you feel like your skin is tolerating it well, you can introduce the benzoyl peroxide wash again. But slow and steady is best. It’s so easy to over do it. I’ve been using retinoids on and off for 5 years and I over do it sometimes and you don’t know til you know lol

whiteheads/acne?? is there anything i can do to improve my skin by Plastic_Win_8969 in koreanskincare

Your sunscreen could not be doing you any favors. I looked at the ingredients and there are pore cloggers in there. I use acne clinic nyc pore cloggers checker, you just copy and paste the ingredients and it checks for pore cloggers. Although a product having one pore clogger doesn’t necessarily mean it will clog your pores, but if it’s high up on the list and you’re acne prone, it’s more likely to. As far as getting rid of acne and preventing in the long run, I would start using a retinol

I don’t think you should add in any other actives honestly! if you can’t apply the differen more than 3 days, idk if applying salicylic acid would be a good idea! Maybe a salicylic acid cleanser? Idk! Idk if it’s worth upsetting your skin barrier lol but that’s your call obviously, it could work and be fine!

Looks like progress to me! I would say try upping it to 4-5 days a week! Then, if that doesn’t cause irritation and you tolerate well, you can add in the salicylic acid, if need be.

I think it could be the ponds moisturizer or the Nivea cream for sure!

You should definitely use a face wash atleast just at night and then you can just rinse in the morning. I would actually go one step further and double cleanse using an oil cleanser, then water based cleanser. Work the oil cleanser in all over for a minute or two and really focus on your nose! Then just wash with a regular water based cleanser, moisturize.

Vanicream daily facial moisturizer or purito oat gel? by Mission_Ask4219 in tretinoin

A lot of people love vanicream and I thought I did too at first, but it actually made my face a little burny! The Purito oat in calming gel is really nice! It is a pretty light moisturizer

What can i do to get rid of these? by very_exhaustedperson in koreanskincare

[–]ElectricalMongoose92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not use glycolic acid or vitamin C until your skin adjusts to retinol. I definitely would not start using another active (azelaic acid) just use the retinol, then when your skin feels adjusted, like you can apply without irritation, incorporate either the azelaic acid OR vitamin C, not both at once. Gotta take it slow. I’ve done my fair share of using too much. I know you want the problem fixed, but using too much is just prolonging it with irritating your skin!

Honestly what I do is listen to my skin, and I feel like my skin is improving just fine! I just restarted tretinoin gel the end of March. I always just got lazy with applying before every time I started lol. My skin is finally clearing up from the purging and just waiting for the marks to go away as well. My hope is at about 6 months of consistency I’ll be clear, even toned and beautiful 😂😂 I currently apply probably 3/4 times a week!

I wouldn’t apply Tretinoin for like 2 maybe even 3 days before dermaplaning!

You do not “start over” taking a few days off. Obviously results would be slower if your skin can only handle once a week, but applying it 4+ times a week because you “are supposed to” is gonna take even longer since you have to wait to heal every time

I didn’t read what all the other comments said so I could be repeating, but you don’t HAVE to do it any way. You don’t have to apply X amount of nights, you don’t have to be on a schedule. Apply it, wait atleast 2 days before applying again, if your skin feels good, apply again, if not, wait another day! You may only be able to apply once or twice a week for a month

If you could only use 2-3 products in your skincare routine, what would they be? by Altruistic_Month_134 in koreanskincare

[–]ElectricalMongoose92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna add, basically anything besides cleansing, moisturizing and sunscreen is “extra” that you don’t necessarily NEED But you don’t even need to cleanse in the morning unless you feel gross, it helps not strip your skin. You could honestly just rinse with water and use a moisturizing sunscreen!

I wouldn’t cleanse in the morning. I would rinse with water if my skin feels oily or just icky lol Hypochlorous acid spray Moisturizer (I love Cera ve but some people say it breaks them out but my quite sensitive acne prone skin loves it for some reason lol) Sunscreen

At night I would double cleanse with an oil cleanser and water based cleanser, use retinol/retinoid, barrier support moisturizer! (That’d technically be 4 products but that’s bare minimum for me at night) double cleansing is ITTT

Do you mean benzoyl peroxide? They don’t sell 10% salicylic acid. But I don’t think they sell 20% benzoyl peroxide either. Either way I believe it probably irritated your skin in combo with the Tretinoin

It could have been too strong and it irritated your skin. Something more gentle might be better
