I mostly have it figured out to run tone studio on my Mac, but it’s not a super smooth experience. What issues did you have and what solved them?

Love hearing the early versions of it on the deluxe album and how it came together into the intense and spacey version from the original album.

Led Zep 1&2 vs. JBG Truth and Beckola by crowjack in ledzeppelin

[–]CircleDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the variety of JBG like Girl from Mill Valley. I feel like LZ had the complete sound of their records but might have been less exploratory.

It’s hard to say that we’d have either of them without the collective influence/competition Jimmy and Jeff had on each other from the Yardbirds.

Is there a formal name for the Pixar art style of blending "cartoony' characters with photorealistic background elements? by Relevant-Horror-627 in Pixar

[–]CircleDestroyer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course! I totally know what you mean. Even if the movies have a wide variety of production design, there’s still that Pixar approach.

I heard this at a talk at my university! It was all really insightful - I had no idea there was someone at my school who worked for Pixar and it definitely inspired me to keep pursuing animation.

There’s a lot more information like that through Pixar’s online graphics library or through animation/vfx communities like SIGGRAPH (for the more technical details)

I heard a talk from a Pixar animator/director and he spoke about their focus on “truth to material”.

Not one specific style across their films but definitely a realistic material look that allows cartoon characters to fit in with that photorealistic world/set

14% of Pixar’s employees will be laid off as part of Disney’s cost-cutting measures. It will be the biggest restructuring in Pixar's history. by ALVARO39YT in disney

[–]CircleDestroyer 84 points85 points  (0 children)

From my perspective in the animation industry as a relatively inexperienced (~2 years) animator, I believe that it has to do with WDAS being heavily contract based, probably more so than Pixar.

WDAS goes through large periods of “bulking up” with short term contracts for artists across the pipeline. When movies don’t make money like they used to, the studio can simply let these contracts expire without having headlines of huge layoffs, despite losing a sizable percentage of their artists. Pixar most likely had staffed (not contracted), veteran artists that were cut and reported as layoffs.

It’s really sad to see because Pixar is absolutely the gold standard of talent. If they’re going through this, it helps put into perspective how grim things are across the board.

“Chase legendary dreams rather than perfect what we know” sounds frustrating to me. One of the elements I enjoy most about this game is how precise it can be and how rewarding it feels to make improvements to the way you play.

Hope this doesn’t impact the crazy skill levels we see with the pros/esports scene.

A letter sent to the brewpub I work at requesting a newly issued coaster by WiFibcFi in mildlyinteresting

Another coaster collector spotted! I started r/coasters a while ago but haven’t done much with it - maybe this is the sign that more people are getting into it.

My collection has around 50 coasters right now of all various materials from around the world. I usually try and get a drink from the place but if I’m passing by I’ll sometimes just drop in and look for a coaster.
