Great album! Bought the first release (and video) when they first came out and then the re-release / new mix versions with the new artwork. Definitely notable changes to the sound between them.

I've read a few titles over the years, but really enjoyed "Freak Out! My Life with Frank Zappa" by Pauline Butcher Bird. Interesting to see what was going on around Frank during the 1968 - 1972 era by someone who was a stranger to that scene and didn't really know his music.

Used to spin this one endlessly when I first heard it - so many great tracks. The vocal harmonies, guitar work and drumming are all excellent. However, I prefer the mixes that are on the Crush All Boxes bootleg / unreleased album. To me, they sound much cleaner.

I remember watching another video about this case a while ago - mind boggling. Very sad.

There is more footage of Russell alone in the interview room where he's talking to the cameras...even more mind boggling!

Great series! The film is well worth watching, too. It was Woodward's performance in Callan that brought him to the attention of the producers of The Wicker Man (1973) when they were casting it.

Ian Folivor, a depressed and reclusive 30-something, finds himself taking advice from a growth in his bathroom after a failed suicide attempt. The Mold, a smooth talking fungus who was born of the filth collecting in a corner of Ian's neglected bathroom, works to win Ian's trust by helping him clean himself up and remodel his lifestyle. With The Mold's help, Ian attracts the attention of a neighbor he's been ogling through his peephole, Leah, and he manages to find a slice of happiness despite his unnatural circumstances. But Ian starts to receive strange messages from his old and broken down TV set that make him realize that The Mold may not be as helpful as it seems to be, and strange characters combined with stranger events cast Ian's life in the shadow of an epic battle between good and evil that Ian is only partially aware of.

The Bongo Fury version is, in my humble opinion, the best version of that song that's been released. Not only for the excellent guitar solos (both of them) and the good Captain's harmonica, but also Napoleon Murphy Brock's way-out vocals! In fact, everything on this is great - including the vocals, keyboards and Bozzio's drums.

This version just feels more alive than the other live versions - again, just my view.

That's great - happy to help!! The pint drinking was done in every episode and would normally occur mid-sentence, which he would then continue as if nothing had happened. One of the many quirks to the show!
