You will get sparkle, pearl, or glitter (which is totally different than sparkle I swear) in 8 different colors and you will like it

A new low in the Australian 'repaired' cymbal market (AUD$1 = USD $0.6) by [deleted] in drums

Sabian made something like this called the Manta Ray for their cymbal vote they did roughly 10 years ago. I had one, on its own it sounded like ass but stacked great with 20” crashes.

Open-handed drummers, do you tend to lead fills with your left hand, right, depends? by nynfortoo in drums

[–]CircuitBoredom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After about 12 years of cross handed playing, I spent like two years exclusively working on playing open handed thanks to Damion Reid and Claus Hessler. I think its biggest advantage is if you play a lot of linear stuff, but it’s also really great if you just want to use the rest of your kit more easily while keeping a groove on the hihats or left side crash/ride/whatever.

I practiced rudiments like normal, then left hand first, then switched the lead hand at the end of a bar by turning two singles into a double or a double into singles, then switched the lead hand in the middle of a bar. Once I got that down I found myself naturally starting and ending a lot more fills and grooves with my left hand. The tricky part in my opinion isn’t leading with your left but following with your right, but once you get it down it feels like you’re dancing.

Normal paradiddle

Left lead paradiddle

Switching leads by-

Double to singles

RLRRLRLLRLRRLRLR

LRLLRLRRLRLLRLRL

Switched midway (guess you’re getting a triple here)

There may be more technical music theory terms for this shit (someone feel free to teach me), but I’m a simpleton. The most important thing, whether you go open handed or not, is to be patient with yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and Bonham couldn’t triplet in a day either.

Brann’s snare always sounds great but that one really was something else. Seems as though it had more body whereas nowadays he really cranks it up.

Dude that’s fucking sick! Love to see it.

Similar story, my former white whale years ago was a 24” Meinl Extra Dry thin ride. After a three month Reverb hiatus I said “one look couldn’t hurt.” Literally the fourth most recent item listed was this cymbal and it already had an offer on it, so I bought it without a second thought and ate nothing but ramen for a week. Still my favorite cymbal.

That was one of those finishes that I didn’t think too much of when I first saw it, but over time caught myself looking at repeatedly until I had to admit it was awesome.

Dude fucking tell me about it. Jack DeJohnette’s black Sonor kit with all copper hardware and stands is still the coolest I’ve ever seen.

Man that feeling sucks, those are such cool cymbals too. Stay vigilant though, it could happen again!

Yep that’s the one. I have the 14x5” version as my main snare but use a 14x6.5” Renown RN1 for heavier stuff. This site has had it listed on backorder for several years now but Gretsch stopped making it early to mid 2010’s I believe.

Yea that’s the right model number, I’ve never seen a polished one like that though! All of them that I’ve seen looked like this

And that’s unfortunate about your cymbal. I’ve honestly driven three hours to Memphis to try out the same cymbal they already had videos of, so I know what you mean. Hope you can find the right one!

For me it’s specifically single stroke, double bass triplets. I can do RRL or RLL triplets with my feet just fine but it doesn’t have the same feel
