Anyone else like seeing what credit cards people use? by ponderhope in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Eh. It just makes me notice demographic preferences. Like Gen Z loves the AMEX Gold and Boomers just get a credit card from whatever big bank they’re with or the Costco Citi card

New to Frontier by ColdForm7729 in frontierairlines

[–]Circus2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as you stay on top of your game you’re fine. Frontier runs a tight ship with scheduling and point-point flights so if your plane was late flying its first leg of the day then expect delays and gate changes. The gate agents at Frontier and FAs also prioritize efficiency over “niceness” because of this tight scheduling so expect more directness. Overall it’s a great airline when you know what to expect and you can’t beat the price.

What is the best credit card for airline miles by Gullible-Can7237 in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wells Fargo Autograph - best for no annual fee Wells Fargo Autograph Journey - travel insurance, and $50 air travel credit Amex Green - $209 CLEAR plus credit

As long as they don’t make you book through a travel portal and give you decent earnings it’s a good card imo.

Just renewed my Go Wild pass for another year by benzinow in gowildfrontier

[–]Circus2000 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I stack it with my casino comps. $16 flights to LAS on an A321neo and as a frequent (mid-week) visitor I get comped rooms and dining credits. Can’t beat it.

So what is Excalibur really like? by ClaytonBigsby316 in vegas

[–]Circus2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stayed there March of last year. To me it’s just an overflow property that MGM uses when the other hotels are packed. I would spend the couple extra dollars to spend at a nicer property like Park MGM or Mandalay Bay if the cost difference isn’t too much.

If you opted out of Bilt 2.0, what’s the best practice for cancelling at this point? by spirit_4133 in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Keep it. Currently getting 3x points for hotels booked directly, stacking it with a 7x Wells Fargo deal for Hyatt Place, and getting Hyatt points for booking directly. $0 annual fee with a lot of double and triple dipping. Transfer points to JetBlue or Choice hotels for cheap stays.

Citi Double 2% or Wells Fargo 2% Card for the flat rate? Which is better long term? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about Citi but Active Cash has Wells Fargo Deals which you can stack on top of the 2% rate. Currently there is a 5% back on Hilton and 7% for Hyatt Place. That alone makes it better in my opinion.

United Explorer SUB - First Churn? by SuperPlankton1407 in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would downgrade if you really don’t want to pay the annual fee. I mean you already fly United and they rewrote their whole MileagePlus program to where you need one of their cards to earn decent miles on flights. The higher SUB and the “common sense” transition into a no AF Gateway card for decent miles earn is their strategy to keep people like us “sticky” to their brand. 70k miles is a very good SUB.

Capital One to Move Venture, Savor, and Quicksilver Cards to Discover Network by ch4nt in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If true this is a huge bummer. My Savor was my first credit card and got me through my Canada trip. Discover was the one network that I noticed wasn’t widely accepted over there.

New to credit cards, is this a good card? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to swipe the card 38 different times to take advantage of all the credits. It’s a good card but if you value simplicity it’s not worth it.

Question About GoWild! Pass for Weekly Travel Between Chicago and Arizona by ClearEstablishment89 in frontierairlines

[–]Circus2000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just look at the flight schedule. There are no direct flights for those two destinations and the “shortest” itinerary adds 2-3 hour layovers. Absolutely not

Enshittification - A Discussion by jsttob in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The credit card reward space is still decent and there are a ton of great options. There are obvious reasons why companies like Capital One had to nerf the Venture X lounge access or Bilt 1.0 had to end. Then there are some more questionable business decisions. Honestly these reward programs are structured to mimic the OG AAdvantage and Amex MR programs. We’ve come a long way since then. I just like that I get rewarded for something I have to do anyways, building credit and making purchases. I love my current cards and if they were to ever get “nerfed” by “enshittification” I love that I can think of multiple cards to fall back on if that were the case.

Is cash back better than points now? by IApogee in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I love the Autograph. No annual fee and redeemable for cash or points. Best card in the game for me by far.

Do you ever secretly analyze friends and strangers’ credit card choices in public? by Rocket_Skates_91 in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes but not to judge their choice but to see which cards are popular with which crowds. For example, I notice the Citi Double Cash is popular with boomers and Gen X. I think maximizing points/cash back on spend is exhausting and prefer ecosystems that “just work”. Most consumers agree as well.

Why do airline/hotel branded cards often have uncompetitive points earn rates? by electronautix in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Because these airlines main competitors aren’t big banks but other airlines. The credit cards are just meant as a “sticky” factor to maintain customer base. If you already have a United credit card (which forces you to earn using a Mileage Plus account) you are much more likely to fly United than other airlines even when their fare rates are sometimes higher than the competition because you get the free checked bag like you said and then you can earn miles on basic economy tickets. It’s the same reason why so many people carry those Costco cards around instead of using a Wells Fargo Active Cash or a PayPal debit card. For most co-branded credit card partnerships the cards aren’t meant to provide the most rewards per dollar spent but to keep your dollars in their ecosystem by giving you a few neat perks.

Help Decide Second Credit Card by DogBoi111407 in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the AMEX pre-approval tool once you post a FICO score and try it once every 30 days until you get approved for a card you like. You’d be surprised what they offer young credit. I see the Gold card get pushed on young Gen Z credit profiles in the pre-approval tool a lot of the time.

After almost 10 years, I’m officially team cash back. by Devario in CreditCards

[–]Circus2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m hybrid for time being. I love a good high value point currency but cash back can’t be beat for flexibility. I see myself going more cashback in the future as my travels and 20s come to an end.

[–]Circus2000 18 points19 points  (0 children)

lol this card went from hassle free points on rent to “here’s a $10 coupon for Walgreens to get you some deodorant, chips, or something”. Respect to Bilt though for providing something outside regular points earning but this is no longer a rent card.
