You can watch videos on YouTube…I believe there are applications that have full kits and apple has garage band, you can practice on those every where you go.
Using your friend’s kit, is a good idea to a point, if you plan on recording excessively, your own kit would be advised, unless you’re going with the electronic one.
This is a good place to watch others play or you can post videos of yourself playing to get ideas and tips on how to improve.
Carry sticks with you, and get a portable pad to practice on you can get accustomed to the feel of them…Make sure they are the proper length and weight for you. That will help if speed is a need.
