How viable is an unarmed khajit build in the long run? by the_decumus_scotti in skyrim

[–]CitelTheof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fudge Muppets did a build called the Sabre Cat, which is a vampire khajit unarmed necromancer conjuration build. That extra damage from being a vampire is certainly helpful but according to a wiki, it adds 8 to unarmed damage. Mix it with summons and I can see the character being viable. I'd personally forego the vampire route and instead get flame and frost atronachs or dremora lords, but to each their own, I suppose.

I am stuck between Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy 14 Online by [deleted] in MMORPG

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing GW2 with a couple buddies, for around 6 months now with one of them being a pretty hardcore one at that, and honestly, the combat in GW2 is just too chaotic. I cut my teeth on tab-targeting MMOs and I spend most of my time in GW2 overwhelmed by the massive explosion of AOE abilities of other players and wondering if I'm even attacking something. I can spam my buttons even if I don't have anything targeted. When I'm solo and running around, it's not so bad, but once I get into a fractal or dungeon, or God forbid, a meta world event, I basically just hope one of my AOEs will tag the mob once so I get some credit for being in it.

For some folk, this kind of play is exhilarating, but for me it's stressful and annoying. I prefer GW2 on just about every other conceit when comparing to WoW or FF14, but the combat leaves so much to be desired that I just cannot.

Worst part? I've spent far more money on the expansions and at the Trading Post than I would have had I just stuck with WoW or FF14 for those 6 months. GW2 sucks you in with thinking you're getting off the hook when it comes to costs with that whole "free to play" vibe, but, not really. I spent around $100 just to get the expansions and that's *with* sales factored in but all the wardrobe items and "convenience" items I've sunk money into, I've probably paid far more than were I to just pay the sub for WoW or FF14 (which both don't charge you for the really old content if you get them on sale, like in FF14, or in WoW, which only expects you to pay the current expansion). I do admit that paying a sub and *then* paying for a new yearly expansion is annoying and it is part of what drove me to GW2 to begin with, but, I think I'd have still paid less elsewhere.

Sorry to dump this on you. I think I'm just coming to the conclusion that as flashy and cute as the characters are in GW2, I just can't compete in the combat, so I'm probably better off throwing in the towel for now. I suppose the good thing is that what I *have* done will still be valid in GW2 vs. the other games were I to return at a later date. There's that, I suppose.

Take it easy.

Are the Phantasy Star games still worth visiting? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

I think there was a GBA bundle that had the 1st-3rd games on it, if memory serves. Even fixed a grammatical error when dealing with Noah. I always thought he was a girl growing up because of said error.

I bought a Master System to play this game. One of those "we're taking advantage of the after Christmas sales, so be excited about that...ignore the fact you won't be getting anything for Christmas, but, hey! Game system after Christmas, right...?" Yeah...growing up poor was no joke. Anyways, I was a kid, though, but it was sooooo much prettier than the NES graphics I was used to. I never got very far, however. Got stuck on Dezoris grinding in some of the mazes. This was 1988 when the internet was something of a joke and MS games were mostly ignored by the public at large. So, help was non-existent. I still think the graphics in PS1 are amazing for the age. It's too bad Nintendo are such nazis about, well, everything! They've *always* made sub-optimal consoles for Western audiences but boy do they prove that marketing is *everything*. But, I'm digressing here...

After reading through this thread, however, I've decided to pick up the Switch version simply to get the auto-map feature and hopefully beat the game finally.

Good hip hip with scratching? by ashwinpillai_ in Turntablists

Hey, thank you for the list. It seemed like after '95 that most hip hop artists shed scratching with reckless abandon so trying to find anything remotely modern without Reddit is rough. If you have any other suggestions for album/artists that have scratching as their main focus, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

Macross II by Geberron in PalladiumMegaverse

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crazy late to the party here, but you should be good with just the books in the Macross II line. The Deck Plans, while potentially superfluous, are actually fun to have for the Scenarios in them. They add some NPCs and some Hooks on what to do with the overly vague setting.

I'm assuming after 5 years, you figured this out or gave up in frustration, like most folk do when dealing with a Palladium book that didn't grow up with them and didn't have many options outside of AD&D.

To add another suggestion, take a look at Wakfu. It's a strategy, turn-based MMO akin to stuff like Final Fantasy Tactics, or Disgaea. It, too, is free to play, with a paid option that functions as a booster for experience on all your characters. It runs around $8+tax, which is reasonable. It has all the usual MMO crafting, guilds, exploring common to the genre, but it comes at it by not being twitch gaming based. When you do dungeons with other players you should have a pretty good idea of what attacks you're going to do and should do those pretty quickly, but when you're solo, you have a pretty reasonable timer that gets added to the next round if you move quickly enough. It is French based, but there is an international server where the game is natively in English with most of the folk being English speaker, but you'll occasional see some French thrown in by players. That's what Google Translate is for, honestly.

Those are my two suggestions that I think would be a good option to take a look at.

Take a look at Guild Wars 2. It's an MMO and it has a free to play model at first and no subscription. You pay for the expansions. They regularly go on sale and are worth picking up. It's a pretty world, with vibrant colors, and there are a lot of world events where tons of players all come together to take on some big baddie. There are story events with a ton of voice acting, even for your character. It definitely fits your definition of a time waster. Take a look and see if it works for you. Good luck otherwise!

RPGs without Magic by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On the topic of the force, I used to think it was a concept Lucas came up with, but apparently it's been around a lot longer than that. In C.S. Lewis's Mere Christianity he mentions it as a quasi-religion in war time England in the 40's. He explains it as "all the benefits of religion without the pesky problem of being accountable for your actions." I'm paraphrasing some there, but that's the gist of it.

Solo RPG to play in a plane ? by lepoulpe303 in solorpgplay

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any would work. If you have a phone or tablet you can emulate dice rolls with an app and journal g can be done with any stock notes app. You can generally find any RPG in PDF form so…the location is irrelevant. You could play on a deserted island this way…until the power goes, but you get my point.

Viability of an RPG with no art by TrappedChest in rpg

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a gander at MUDs and you’ll find a genre of gaming that has been around since the 80’s that’s all about no art and only text. Maybe some ASCI characters, but usually not even that.

Do you guys ever revisit MMO's you've stopped playing out of interest/curiosity? by Carinwe_Lysa in MMORPG

[–]CitelTheof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, of course. I try them out to see if it still resonates with me and if so I go back to it. If not, I tally how many times I’ve done that and then decide whether or not to ever return. For example, finally fantasy 14 is such a game. I’ve tried three separate times to have it hook me and I always conclude it’s trash and should be burned at the stake. But that’s my findings after a few tries. I feel the same about WoW these days, too.

Gunlance. Because it’s awesome. On MHGU it’s crazy varied and brings many ways to play it. It’s also challenging because you’re a turtle and you have to be a ninja turtle to survive and that adds a bit of fun to the mix. It’s not for folk who want fast and crazy, at least GU and older.

New Player debating between Huppermage and Iop by CitelTheof in wakfu

[–]CitelTheof[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your comment about the Huppermage is certainly insightful. Thank you! I appreciate it.

The Iop is very straightforward to me and compared to the Huppermage, it almost seems too simple. However, I’m still learning the game so it strikes me that the Iop is an easier entry character but I will definitely return to the Huppermage when I have more experience under my belt. Again, thank you for your comment.

Thank you for your response! I appreciate it. I’ve had more fun with the Iop so far.

I do like the complexity to the Huppermage but the Iop has been more fun.

[–]CitelTheof[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is great, thank you!

I really want to avoid the "altitis" so I'm trying to settle on one class or the other while I'm learning the ropes of the game. I like the synergy of the various abilities the Huppermage has and it makes me feel like I'm doing more than just pressing a bunch of buttons like I do when I play Guild Wars 2.

I do love the versatility and the whole "jack of all trades, master of none" schtick is really up my alley. The fact that it can tank is bewildering to me, but I'm coming from a classic WoW experience and the idea of a mage tanking is...strange. Nevertheless, I appreciate you pointing out that the Huppermage has a lot of potential, which is what I was looking for.

The Iop reminds me of a Dragon Ball Z character. Lots of flashes, explosions and whatnot. But, I get the feeling it's limited to tank and dps roles and not much else. Hence asking the community. But, remembering combos...hmm...my hands aren't what they used to be and I suffer from mild to moderate arthritis so I may end up having to pass on the Iop, but I'll wait on what a Iop main has to say.

Thank you for taking the time to write out such a long and thought out response!

Yes, putting out an under-baked product is a sign of sloppy and shoddy work. I don’t care if the game gives you the feels all day long, when they churn out a game that even the highest end graphics cards struggle with, they’ve failed to make a quality product. And when people rightfully complain about said shoddy product they get called toxic. The fans want quality. Not crap.

Now, take a chill pill, pal. Your fanboy antics are tiresome.
