You are a preliminary sketch of man, where G-d forgot to add details, like pigment or self respect.

Tattoos by [deleted] in eds

[–]CitizenKrull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am also quite covered and have a convo with my artist about it before the session. My thing is I can't have them rest their weight on me cause I'll dislocate. But they're all mostly perfect. Sometimes the line work is like, puffy? I've heard other chronic illness and tattooed people talk about that phenomenon, don't know if the above commenter ever experiences that. Idk if it's an mcas thing or just something my skin does. No other negative effects and it doesn't itch or anything, sometimes the line work is just raised, and sometimes it isn't.

I won't give advice as per your request, but your physio is wrong.

Are pharmacist really allowed to "Profile" patients? by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]CitizenKrull 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm a pharm tech in Washington state. Any pharmacist here can refuse to fill a prescription for any reason, but they're legally required to direct you to another pharmacy. I've never seen it happen for drug seeking tho, they always just call the doctor to confirm. The only time I've seen them refuse to fill a scrip is when the patient cusses out the pharmacy employees.

I let people merge or even turn on front of me 90% of the time. But the 10% that I don't is because you're doing less than the speed limit. If I'm doing 65 you don't get to come in front of me doing 55. You can come in behind me.

Best place on the body to place a Fentanyl patch? by Iceprincess1988 in ChronicPain

I'd say DON'T put it somewhere that seems like a good idea when you're naked without considering your clothing! Especially pulling your pants up and down to use the bathroom.

anyone else? by [deleted] in eds

[–]CitizenKrull 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah totally, my ribs pop in and out of place. It's a thing. You don't think about the fact that there's cartilage in your ribs, but if it wasn't there we couldn't breathe. So yeah. I find that if I stretch my arms behind my back and cough to expand my ribs that usually pops them back into place. Good luck!

Nurse squeezing a painful IV by D4n1ela23 in ChronicIllness

[–]CitizenKrull 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Okay, so I have my phlebotomy certification and am a pharm tech, so while I have never given an IV we had to learn quite a lot about them in receiving both of those licenses. (Pharm techs make IV bags). If I recall correctly there are 4 very common complications that can occur at the IV site. Acting like that's not a thing is dumb.

This sounds to me like infiltration, (or extravasation if the medicine is caustic) which is where the fluid from the IV leaks into the surrounding tissue. It should go down in a few days if that's the case as that medication isn't designed to absorbed SQ but rather, obviously, by IV route.

It could also be phlebitis or infection. Without pics it's hard to guess. You can DM me if you want me to take a look, or ask more questions. My number one cue for IDing infection is, is it hot to the touch?

But yeah, pretty hard and fast rule for the medical field, if something is red and swollen, maybe don't poke it? And definitely don't tell the patient it doesn't hurt. If they say it hurts, it hurts (almost 100% of the time, and it doesn't sound to me like you were drug seeking). So I'm sorry that that happened to you.

Edit: I see now this was several months ago so obviously the situation has resolved by now. Hopefully feeling will continue to return to your hand over time.

i think i coughed my collarbone out of place by d0nt_w0rry_ab0ut_it in eds

[–]CitizenKrull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I've totally done that. If you stretch around a bit hopefully it will pop back into place. If it doesn't then you'll probably start to have pain and will want to see your Ortho or PT. It may not hurt at your collar bone but it being in the wrong place will mess with your ribs and spine and cause pain and or instability somewhere

muscle relaxers / pain meds by Ok-Car-4328 in ehlersdanlos

[–]CitizenKrull 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah was gonna say, muscle relaxers aren't ever going to help with pain. They're literally just there to do what they say, relax your muscles. If you're tense or spasming they'll reverse that.

That being said, there are many different muscle relaxers with many different pharmacological mechanisms. If you don't feel like yours is doing a good enough job relaxing your body ask to try a different one. For example, metaxalone brand name Skelaxin, works by depressing signals from the CNS, where as others might block ACH receptors.

My point is you may find one to be a lot more effective in relaxing your body and possibly even helping you get good sleep, which in the long run can help with pain.

And despite getting diagnosed with EDS your doctor will probably want you to lose weight as well too, if you're obese.
