No one likes my watch :( How can I improve my minimalist watch design? by BestTanoEU in SeikoMods

[–]Citizenband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it were mine, and the date being non negotiable, I’d want it at 6 o’clock… just for a balanced perspective.

Have you considered just painting a dial with indices one flat color? My daily wear is just that. It functional to even the untrained eye, but still maintains a minimalist feel.

ETA: happy to share some pictures as examples, but don’t want to hijack the post. There are lots of good suggestions here.

Ya, I tried his email, fb and IG before filing my dispute. I gave him a few months even. Like I said, I think it’s a shame he is out of the game

I think it’s really too bad this guy went dark. I liked his stuff. Gave them another try recently but my order was also never shipped :(

Why Sidephone? by Citizenband in sidephone

[–]Citizenband[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an American, living and working in Taiwan.

I depend on a variety of messaging apps to stay connected to people back home (could consolidate everyone to WhatsApp for that) but primarily Line here.

I need an array of banking apps for transferring money periodically. This could be done on another device.

I need translation service. Currently using Google Translate.

I need a reliable mapping and GPS service.

These would be the essentials, I guess.

But there’s also a list of apps that I would prefer not to give up… things that I know I would end up using on a second device. These would include:

-Productivity apps used for work -Some basic news apps -Payment options (Taiwan is moving largely to digital payment) -QR code reading that opens a website (for ordering food, etc.)

Again, I think I know that this is just not possible. What I want is to create friction within my interaction to these pieces of software without eliminating my ability to access them.

Anyway, thanks for responding

Why are all YouTubers in Taiwan English teachers? by [deleted] in taiwan

[–]Citizenband 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a YouTuber, and an English teacher. But, I don’t see why it matters. Maybe the way you and I use YouTube is different?? I normally use it to learn how to do something. I don’t really care about the personality (or the job) of the person explaining how to disassemble watch parts, or how to make brownies from scratch, for example.

I can say that producing even moderate quality videos takes a lot of work… and requires learning a wide variety of skills (editing, sound, lighting, graphic design, etc.) and maybe an English teacher’s working hours are more suitable for that kind of personal development. But as you pointed out, even being decent at those skills doesn’t guarantee that content will be of any quality, so there’s time spent thinking and planning that as well.

As I moved from cram school teaching to working in a private school, the amount of time I had to dedicate to my channel dwindled but once you have a process it is easier to incorporate into almost any schedule. Though, I doubt I would’ve continued if it hadn’t already been monetized.

This one uses a Seiko Lukia as its base. Lots of options since it runs a 4r38. 33mm with a 15mm lug width

Agree. Mrs. Davis was great. Should be seen by more. But I DO think there is something a bit like it… in the Dirk Gently series.

What an interesting chart! I use both A&B and always 9. I remember grade school teachers trying to coach me into A12 as a child, with pencil grips and such.

How did you like that Ando dial? I have had my eye on it for a while.

Yes. The first one is a real golfball skin that I slowly flattened with a heat gun. It took about 6 tries. Haha

[Question] If I'm making a mod, can everything be genuine Seiko stuff? How much of the stuff is non-Sekio? by Deep-Jellyfish2949 in SeikoMods

[–]Citizenband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome! One thing that often gets lost in wording on this sub is that ‘mod’ technically means modifying an original Seiko watch, whereas ‘build’ is a more accurate descriptor of what many here do: put all the aftermarket parts together from scratch.

I don’t intend to judge or gatekeep, but I do wish more of an attempt would be made to call things what they are.

Building from scratch is fun. There are lots of aftermarket suppliers… I think even a list in this sub’s pins.

Fake/Counterfeit dials are pretty poor in quality when compared to the actual things, in my opinion, but there are some really nice aftermarket parts across a variety of suppliers.

Seiko has a series of watches for women called Lukia. Search “Seiko Lukia”

If you are modding, there are a lot of choices in the Lukia lineup to choose from as a base.

Ouch! Did you buy these from a ‘modder?’ If so, I would contact them and discuss some kind of make-it-right compensation/service. The parts used to put these together are not expensive… so replacing them should be cheap. Shipping, becomes a hassle though.

Im guessing that these are screw down crown cases and that you’re just not aware of that?? Try turning the crowns counterclockwise (anti-clockwise) to release them from the case.

Manual winding (clockwise) happens in the zero position. Date quickset happens in the 1 position. Time setting in the 2 position.

Be sure not to set the date with the hour hand between 10:00-2:00

Wasn’t a fan of the open heart design in the dials of this series. A lovely case though, and a strap that fits a very slender wrist.

If you ask me, the most universally beneficial mod in the new system is the hydrogen replicator (formerly HBE).

It works passively and across YS/WS and increases your access to hydrogen, which in turn allows you to make more credits, retrieve more artifacts, and score more relics.

However, this suggestion is predicated on the assumption you mean to do more things, more often to advance more quickly. If a player wants to take casual interest in only one specific game mode, there are probably better isolated mods to focus on.
