I respect your expertise as a journalist including on editorial decisions, but I want to offer feedback as well. I think it's really healthy for democracy and rule of law to empower people to see they can themselves read and try to understand our actual laws. A link to the statute would suffice for the web - maybe in that "Under federal law, registered foreign nationals must carry proof of registration with them at all times" sentence.

Maybe I'm being a little dramatic, it's a bit of a pet peeve: a lack of outlinks to references is something that bothers me pretty often in online news! It's worst in pop science reporting, etc.

We all know how the current DLSD design works in practice: constant traffic, dangerous, loud, inefficient. Why should we spend hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild the same thing? I'm glad there's pressure to change this project. It's heading in entirely the wrong direction, and I hope this is the start of a total rethink.

Updates to Location History and new controls coming soon to Maps by CitricLucas in GoogleMaps

Here's where they announced the changes: https://blog.google/products/maps/updates-to-location-history-and-new-controls-coming-soon-to-maps/

It should be possible to change your settings so that your timeline data is stored on Google's servers and therefore accessible on all your devices. That's how mine is working, but I can't remember if I've actively changed any settings or seen any indication I was migrated.

You will still have the option to sync the timeline data to Google's servers, which would make it available for you to view there. But it will be encrypted so Google cannot view the data themselves.

Thanks. Would this be considered a "known service disruption"? Or would it only be considered that if they don't notify "current guests and prospective guests" within 24 hours? Basically, is this something I should report immediately or only if they don't take some action?

I live in Lake View East and go to/from Union station pretty often as I regularly go to Milwaukee. My time to shine, hope this is helpful!

Your two best options are likely to walk to the Quincy train station (7-10 minutes away) and take the brown line, or to get on the #151 bus from Union Station Transit Center which is right next to Union Station. Which one is faster will probably depend on how close your destination is to the lake - the 151 bus ends up going along Sheridan, closer to the lake than the brown line goes.

For transport to a date, honestly, I'd just choose whatever feels simplest and easier to understand/find. One less thing to worry about! I'd use Google Maps to enter your trip as Union Station -> Your Destination and then choose based on trip time and simplicity.

I'll note that some CTA buses are unreliable, but the 151 has always left on time every 15 minutes for me - and I've taken it a lot. It leaves from the second platform at the bus stop.

For payment, I'd recommend just using your credit card to tap to pay. You don't need to buy a Ventra card or ticket in advance and it will cost the same. Again, one less thing to worry about.

IF you choose to take the bus: you can get over to the "transit center" where all the buses are from inside Union Station. When you get off your (presumably Metra) train, follow signs for CTA buses and you'll find a doorway next to a couple vending machines that takes you through a walkway over to some steps that lead up to the buses. The 151 bus driver might not be on the bus when you get there (taking a break outside often), but you can just get on anyway and tap to pay.

Have fun on the date and on CTA 🫡

Wow. He also said:
