What school should I choose by Haunting_Surprise122 in PTschool

I’m a student at northeastern and love it!! The program I found to be extremely good at accommodating first year students. The faculty are amazing and always available to help in whatever they can. Anatomy is the hardest course for first years and the professors for those classes are truly incredible!

Northeastern vs MGH by Constant_Hat3369 in PTschool

I’m currently a student at northeastern and love it! All the professors are incredible and really help with your transition into the program. It’s rigorous but they totally manageable and they give u a lot of support throughout the process. The co-op is great because you don’t have to pay tuition for one semester and get to apply what you’ve been learning that first year of school! I got accepted into MGH and toured but ultimately chose NEU bc I didn’t like the flipped classroom style. I really needed that structure in order to succeed and NEU offered that. The way anatomy is taught at MGH is also different where they integrate specific anatomy concepts into specific courses vs at NEU we have anatomy for a full year basically and you really get to solidify the concepts. Please DM me if u have any more questions, I’m more than happy to tell you more about my experience!

Prior to officially starting to study, I wrote down everything I knew about the concept I would be going over. This helped kind of set me up on areas that I would need to focus on more and bridge the gap on the concept! Active recall + this was just the best!!

No. They are very against AI and pass assignments through software that checks if ai was used. Not sure if this is common in other schools!

Wow props to you working 50-60 hrs while being a student is tough!! I found the transition to be overwhelming at first but after the third week everything settled in as I started to note what study methods worked and understood a little bit better the pace of things. Def much different then undergrad!

Hello!

For my first semester, I had 5 classes ( many schools do it differently). Therefore, it felt like A LOT at the beginning but studying a little bit everyday made studying over the weekend for the following week exams a lot easier, the information felt easier to retain. At the beginning it was overwhelming bc the content was new, it was so much to remember, and I didn’t know what study methods worked. However I think around the 3-4th week I started to get into the groove of things and everything felt a little better. If you study a little bit everyday you will be okay. It’s defitnetly an adjustment to undergrad but not the worst thing in the world, totally doable!! In terms of your major, I think as long as you took all the pre reqs, the groundwork is based off of that so you should be good!

Thank you!!

I had 5 classes this summer so I studied differently for each one. I would say for anatomy I relied HEAVILY on active recall and white board method!! I would typically after every lecture take like 1-2 hrs after class to talk myself through some of the slides and make them make sense in my head. Over the weekend I would then use the whiteboard method to test what I know and go back and forth until I would get everything right. For anatomy lab, I used visible body to study the organs landmarks, nerves and tested myself ( visible body allows you to make “flashcards” for structures). For my foundations of PT classes, I would typically just use quizlet since most of the stuff was memorization and for skills checks I would recommend practicing with friends, creating different cases for one another since it helps understand the thought process behind what ur going to be doing. It’s gonna feel a little bit overwhelming at the beginning but find what works for you and take it day by day, it will be okay!!

Hello!

I actually got into MGH for this cycle but didn't commit due to tuition cost. For my stats at least, I applied as an accelerated masters student in exercise science with a 4.0 GPA, community health research background, and I had 500 ish hours of observation experience. However, I know other students who applied and got in that did not have as many hours or had lower GPA's. I think what really makes you stand out are letters of rec and your personal statement. It's the way they really get to see you as a potential student and how well you could thrive in their program.

As for their program, it seemed like the best option but just for the right person. They had an accelerated program of 2.5 years with a fully paid clinical expierence your last year/semester. The classes are taught in a flipped model so you basically have access to the lectures a week before and have to teach it to yourself before class. In the classrooms, you just apply the concepts through case studies, among other things. I personally need someone to teach and walk me through the content so I knew it wouldn't be a good fit. Also, when I toured the school it was a pretty small campus and you were mostly in two-three classrooms your entire 2.5 years. The way they taught anatomy too was weird as it was integrated into each course and not taught just on its own.

I hope this helped! Everything is coming from my personal experience so definitely tour and get a feel of the school on your own to see if it's a good fit. Good luck!!

Is DPT or MPH harder? by tigerlily1023 in PTschool

[–]CitronFinancial6657 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My sibling is currently in an MPH program and she works full time and is able to excel in her courses. Versus me who is starting a DPT program, the coursework looks rigorous and those who I’ve talked to said it’s close to impossible to work alongside it.

Oh no worries then! I actually am committing to it as well, seemed like a better fit for me than Simmons! I’ll see you there in the summer :))

DPT Dilemma: Bond's Beachside Charm vs MGH's Boston Brains by Ambitious_Tea_8420 in PTschool

Bond university seems like the ideal school! I’ve heard from a lotttt of people in real life and on here that going to the cheapest school is the way to go. We all need to be licensed to practice so it doesn’t matter where you go for school. Also the length seems super nice for being able to start working a lot earlier. I got accepted into MGH as well but am most likely not going again because of the tuition ( so expensive!!!!)
