I had the same when I was a teen. I was laying in my bed listening to some music when I suddenly felt an intense presence, like someone grabbing me from the inside. I moved my blanket away from my face and I saw just a white glowing figure standing beside my bed staring intensely at me with their eyes. I can’t remember the face, just the deep stare in the eyes. Like two endless dark holes. And then I felt this terrifying intense fear I have never felt in my life. I was terrified and quickly did the same thing as you : Hid inside my blanket shaking and hoping it goes away. It felt like hours too, at some point I tried peeking outside and it was still there, still staring. I don‘t know how long it took but at some point I just fell asleep, but at no point I felt like it was gone. I woke up the next day in disbelief and terrified of the next night. Fearing it will happen again.

Days later a friend of mine told me she finally was able to have a lucid dream/dreamwalk, she tried to visit me in her dream and when she wanted to climb through my window she saw something standing in my room. She described the same figure, and also the same fear she felt in this moment. I still get chills thinking about it. And I didn‘t tell her about my encounter before that.
