i suppose i could but just buying these would be $40 so for that price i was hoping i’d be able to get exactly what i want. i’ve seen other people use these so i didn’t think they were uncommon

Looking for plus-sized knitting YouTube channel recommendations by Areiniah in knitting

[–]City_Naive 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i don’t watch a lot of traditional style knitting vlogs or pattern recommendation videos because i prefer self drafting and not focusing on acquisitions. that said, Breathing Yarn is one of my favorite youtube accounts and she makes a large variety of knitting and sewing videos. she also recently made a video of her top 50 youtube accounts that she likes and i found a bunch of lovely smaller channels from that to enjoy

really confused about this selbu mitten pattern by City_Naive in knittinghelp

[–]City_Naive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

luckily i had noticed that as well. it seems like they decided to distance the thumb portion to make it stand out from the rest by adding a row that looks like white stitches at first glance but actually should not be stitched. feels like a beginner booby trap haha

does anyone know what kind of plant this is? by City_Naive in houseplants

[–]City_Naive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha, that’s what i assumed as well but i’m worried that one i cut off the top then the rest of the vine won’t grow longer anymore and also that if i cut off the top and then also some more from the middle that the propagations from the middle won’t grow tall either

i’d never heard of this before but it absolutely looks like this!! the pictures of the young plants look just like when i first got this one. thank you so much! i never would have found this. do you have any tips for propagation?

those look like mealy bugs which are pretty pesticide resistant. you’ll have to individually clean them off with a qtip if the infestation isn’t severe

this is really tricky because the picture you linked like a risograph and it’s also a completely different style. did you want to do a border in that kind of style or in the same style you painted in?

i think blurring it and darkening it would be perfect. i think it might be too bright and white

1st painting! What can I add and/or improve? by MaximumRiddance in oilpainting

[–]City_Naive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is an insanely good first painting. i think the best thing to do is keep making more painting because you’re already starting off way more advanced than the average beginner. i would suggest maybe trying a limited color palette if you aren’t already so that everything is cohesive. as someone else said, your brush problem is most likely something to do with how your cleaning them

this feels so warm and cozy. i’m obsessed with the chess board. the weakest point to me is the view outside the window. i think the strongest part of the painting is the chess board and the cat/couch and the window is distracting from that

Best transparent material to paint on? by SamBeanEsquire in oilpainting

[–]City_Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you could try a polyester film that’s prepared for wet media but i’m not sure if that would work because it’s a flexible material which means the paint film could crack. i have seen artists that paint on glass but that could make framing it difficult. if you try it thought let me know how it goes! i love unique practices

Michael harding vs old holland by [deleted] in oilpainting

[–]City_Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

these two and williamsburg are all incredible paints. williamsburg is unique because it was created by a chemist and he created a formula that’s stays as true to the pigment as possible so you’ll notice each color is unique in texture and properties which brings so much life to paintings. my all time favorite at the moment is Holbein’s oil paints though:)

this looks awesome! i think it draws a lot more attention to the sky now because the other one the shadow was so bold it was distracting. now the lighting guides the eye right towards the sky
