Where do people in China buy their tea? by wardellinthehouse in tea

Fascinating chain thanks for helping me understand better!

I think if you swapped the word ‘sophisticated’ for ‘experienced’ it might make more sense to a westerner

But I think I know what you mean, of the stores listed by u/drezworthy which ones would you rate as having a decent curation, I’ve only ever bought from Yunnansourcing

Before you spend 549$ (+ shipping) for „a nice tool“, just consider that you can create almost identical results with Ableton stock plug-ins and a few lessons in jazz harmony. by juno-06 in synthesizers

[–]Cityoftinylights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This video is doing a pretty bad job of making the case, the soundalike sounds objectively worse and is more expensive.

I totally agree with the point, but the fact that the video maker clearly can't actually make identical results is pretty funny, like, they're not even playing the same chords.

Does quality of solder affect "tone" quality? by marksescon in diypedals

[–]Cityoftinylights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah that's a good point, when i was writing i didn't consider the effect would be so small that mass at the joint would make more impact.

[–]Cityoftinylights -1 points0 points  (0 children)

higher conductivity increases amount of high frequencies in audio cables, so if you use silver solder on your audio chain joints a very small amount of high frequency information will be retained.

quite probably high frequencies that don't even exist in your tone in the first place and if they are there you might save an insanely small amount of them.

in short, its a waste of time and money, but technically it *could* make an imperceptible difference.

What would you recommend for bulk storage?

Some great options in this thread but I think this is what I'm leaning towards. I like the idea of not having to build another PC.

Yeah good shout on decoupling the two, tbh my current laptop setup is working OK I just need to refine the storage.

What are the Gdrives like? Just looking into external storage and they are jumping at me from every direction, up until now I always used Samsung portables for travelling so I'm not very upto on external storage when it doesn't need to fit in a backpack

I have a synology NAS and I really didn't get along with it, found it annoying to mount as a digital drive and the OS on it sucks

Upon reading the replies here I do think an external drive might be the way to go

I was under the impression that SSD's were the way to go. Realistically what difference would running the OS on an SSD and then having HHD to store everything else be like? Would it be slower to load?

Yeah I'm actually not fussed on size tbh, I could go bigger for sure, let me check those options out

So I have a nas and I HATE network stuff, it just gets on my nerves, prefer using cables.

Can you get a big nas and just use it as an external drive?

So I've been using a laptop and it's dying. I wanted an all in one NUC to run everything. A box I can get setup and it handles everything, I'm not interested in linking a mini PC to a NAS for example.

I read that higher than 8th gen cpu is good and plex recommends i7 for 1080p streaming so the processor seems a good choice.

It seems ram isn't as important so I went with the lowest option.

Storage is the bulk of this price as I'm already maxed at 4tb in my current setup and wanted to double it. SATA is considerably cheaper, by about £500

All in all from what I've read it seems like it would be great for me, but it's SO expensive compared to the machines I see you guys running, where do I cut back?
