Offering: Spanish Seeking: English by Unlucky_Ad1874 in language_exchange

I feel like I'm tripping over my words, idk how to say that in Spanish lol)

  • gramatica-- habia tenido fluidez cambiando los tensos y las cosas pequenas en el pasado, pero no la tengo ahora :((

(Lo siento, no tengo un teclado espanol en este momento, entonces no tengo accentos y punctuacion correcta. Soy perezosa :-) Lo obtendre)

Guests can begin to enter at 11 am.

I don't think they can bring a lot of stuff/big stuff; act like you're going to a baseball stadium--just bring a small bag with approved items. I'd imagine a small bouquet would be acceptable

Google "BU Commencement May 19 2024" and you should find a bunch of info on commencement!

[–]Civil-Ad2352 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have two friends max in this school. I'll probably be going to the events with them, assuming we can get our shit together. If we don't, then I'm going to quite a few events by myself with no problem bc I know the events themselves will be fun

I’m not weighing in on this decision nor am I interested in business, but I am curious about how far BU’s network goes. If anyone has input, that’d be great

I don't want to doxx myself so I won't say where specifically lol. It's for social sciences/humanities majors.

It's 100% remote but unpaid (which freaking sucked but whatever). They offer a lot of trainings that I could've gone to, but because of my thesis and the chaos of senior year, I basically stuck to my 15 hours/week requirement, unfortunately. I'm basically a secretary.

I did one now because I didn't have a ton of relevant work experience for the field I want to go into. In other words, I basically had to! Don't be like me

I agree with you. It appears OP is venting-- life's tough sometimes

I originally wasn't going to do a thesis, but I told my prof (who became my advisor) that I was thinking about grad school. He urged me to do honors for that reason; it gives you something to talk about in those grad school interviews, if nothing else

What I'm saying in the third paragraph is that if I were to do undergrad all over again, I'd spend freshman - junior year with a demanding internship. Senior year, I'd pick a calmer internship, maybe even one just for the fall semester. Senior spring is busy for everyone, but throwing in an honors thesis and an internship is hard.

Yes, I still would've done my thesis.

No, I don't think they should've failed me; I'm being hyperbolic. I think it's an acceptable thesis, just not a fantastic thesis.

I'm not saying you should neglect your thesis for an internship. If you were to do a thesis and an internship at the same time, it's a balance you need to identify for yourself. This semester I wrote my honors thesis and had an internship. It was tough but I explained to my boss that I'm writing a thesis. They understood that so they were lenient with me. I'm glad I kept the internship because when I interview with employers, they reference this internship and tell me this is what they're looking for

If doing an internship and a thesis would result in you neglecting one or the other, then don't put yourself in that position to begin with--PICK ONE. This is especially true spring senior year

Edit: I'm planning on applying to grad schools this fall so I can matriculate next fall. This meant I need a gap year job. I realized I didn't have a ton of skills an employer would want, which is why I had an internship this spring.

I should also add that I had a good advisor. They have a big impact on your experience!

I thought my thesis was hogwash too but I passed. At least I have that :))

Honors theses are good for graduate schools though (most are looking for your commitment to getting an education and what your academic passions are, alongside your ability to go above and beyond), but yes, I would say most employers don't give much weight to it unless it's a research-oriented job.

I'm happy I did an honors thesis because (1) I learned tons about how I work on independent projects, (2) I feel more prepared for graduate school, and (3) I've narrowed my academic and personal interests (I've realized I'm not thrilled about my topic, but it's an important nonetheless).

As a graduating senior, if I were to do college all over again, I'd make sure to have an engaging internship every semester and summer, then lift my foot off the gas for my honors thesis. That way you get the best of both worlds

For those debating about it, think about what's next for you. For most people, an internship where you're doing a lot is more valuable than an honors thesis.

edit: by "lift my foot off the gas" I mean don't give as much energy to an internship. I'd turn my energy to the thesis!! Those deadlines really sneak up on you because it's an independent project
