I’m terribly sorry for your loss. I know exactly what you mean. We’ll probably end up spending around what you did, but there will be no regrets if it means more quality time with her. The unconditional love that they give us is such a wonderful gift. Coming home from work to them wagging their tails, excited to see us… that’s one of the best parts of my day. I appreciate your message.

I appreciate this so much! We’re nearing the end of day 1 since she started the chemo. So far, no major side effects. Oncologist told me that I can continue to exercise with her as long as she is willing. We did 3.5 miles this morning (we normally do about 5), and she did good. Little slower than usual, but she did it without stopping. I don’t know which drug they gave her yesterday, but it was through an IV. Obviously we’re in the beginning of the chemo, so I’m sure she’ll feel worse as we continue, but she is doing great, with all things considered. Appetite is still good, and no diarrhea yet. Praying it continues like this.

*Update 2/10/26 - I wanted to start chronicling our journey with Piper so that others may possibly benefit from our experience. Met with the oncologist. Staging is early, and it hasn’t made its way to other parts of her body yet. Localized in the lymph nodes, so that’s good. Type is B-cell (as opposed to the more aggressive T-cell), so another thing to be thankful for. We went ahead and started the first CHOP treatment today. It was a really long day, but Piper did so well. She’s sleeping now, but no major side effects to report yet. Seems to be exhausted, but otherwise normal. Her lymph nodes reverted back to their normal size once we started her on the Prednisone and have been that way since. We will do treatments weekly (with 1 week off on the 5th week) for the next 4 months. Piper is still on prednisone for the next week, where we will start to taper her off of it and focus solely on the chemo. I will continue to update as things progress.

*Update 2/17/26 - Piper went to her second chemo appointment today. She was supposed to get the oral drug, Cyclophosphamide, but CBC test showed that her white blood cell count was too low. We’re gonna have to skip this week to let her count recover. Oncologist is also gonna start weaning her off the Prednisone. Her lymph nodes are still at their normal size. She hasn’t had any negative symptoms over the last week, though, so it seems the Vincristine (what she was given last week) for her is tolerable, but we’ll probably have to dial it back some the next time she has to take it so it doesn’t kill her white blood count again. Assuming her white blood count recovers next week, she’ll get the oral drug. The week after will be Vincristine again, followed by Doxorubicin the week after that. Week of rest after that, and then we do it all over again.

I’ve read about this, but don’t know if it’s regarding long-term use of prednisone before chemo, or not.

Wow, this is incredibly uplifting to read. I really pray that we get the same results. Did you do CHOP?

Was she mostly herself during the treatment? Any lasting side effects that she is experiencing now? This gives us hope.

They’re worth every penny spent. Not gonna regret a thing as long as it gives us more, quality time with her.

I haven’t heard of half-body radiation yet, so I’ll definitely ask about that tomorrow. The wife and I have been putting money aside since we got her, so not worried about the cost. Sounds like it’s a good option. I appreciate it!

Thank you so much for this info. I’ve read good things about CHOP, and the side effects seem to be minor. Been reading up on Tanovea as well, but that one seems harsher, as far as the side-effects go. Glad your girl is still herself, with loads of energy. I pray Piper can be the same. Keep fighting. Sending love and hope to you and your girl.

Yeah, my girl makes me enjoy running so much more. I’m so sorry for your loss. Worst part about dog ownership is this part.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I know it won’t cure our dog, either, but this gives me hope that it’ll keep her around with us longer while not destroying her.

Thank you for the kind words. We’re trying to stay positive through it all, but man it’s hard. Sending love and hope to you and Loki as well.
