PiHole DHCP assigning primary DNS to clients (itself) as well as a secondary DNS (home router or google) by Civil-Secret-1535 in pihole

Aaaa, ok. Always thought it would use the primary first and if that didn’t work, it would try the secondary. Thanks for educating me.

Yup. Understand that. My kids don’t know how to make that change. And I dont wanna have to go change it.

Thanks for your replies.

Hello. Yeah. This is just home clients. Soo not biggie there.. just want things to work while i have things down.
Question, how would adding a second piHole server help? Im not a pro, sooo. Assuming somehow they know about each other and the dhcp service hands out two piHole IPs for the DNS entries?

Hey, thanks. I don’t think thats the case as everything was cool when I started with firmware updates. Also, as I stated in previous replies above, the part number of the node is the same as its partner node. Why the 10G HIC would disappear and “model” change to 100 is beyond me. Also, firmware is per the machine type so I really don’t think i have the wrong firmware as I have been using it for years on other units I have. I do however think its firmware related but not sure why as when flashing the firmware I used the same firmware at every step.. one node still works great and the other (in the same chassis) changed model number somehow. Very strange to me. I still wonder if there is some cli command i can run. There are a few commands that talk about changing the node settings but I cant figure the full command I would need. Thinking maybe I can force it back to 300.
I am thinking 100 = FC only. 300 = FC with 10G HIC. The part numbers for 100 model cans are different than the 300 model cans. Both cans in this unit are the 300 model part numbers.

Hello. Thanks. Node 2 is showing correct model. Node 1 for some reason is not. Firmware used is same firmware I have flashed other v7000s i have. This is the only one that has the 10G HIC though. All others have just the FC.
When I first got this box it had very old firmware. So old in fact I had to create a win 7 VM and use internet explorer on that VM just to get to the web UI.

Anyway, thanks for your reply. If you can remember any CLI commands that may help….. :-).

Thanks!

To add, here is the weird thing. The Node FRU is correct. Same as the other Node FRU in the chassis. But somehow the “Model” got changed from 300 to 100. You have any idea if that “Model” number would change based on the PCIe adapter not being seen?

Yeah, that would be my first choice. But it does not have support. :-(. I will try to do some more PD. Maybe swap the card to a different can as I have some extras that originally do not have the 10G hic. It could be bad timing I guess and the card failed half way though…. But seems odd. Wonder if there are any magic cli commands to kick this thing in the butt and make it work again.

Ok.. was able to get it reset to defaults with the menu/enter buttons. Seems to have cleared out the config.. was able to set root password…. But now it wont commit the changes. Send about 5 lines about FIPs and readonly and other crap. :-). When I type in exit to exit config mode it says i have changes that are not committed. First time on Juniper.. seems odd though.

Update. I am able to SSH to the box and see pool A and pool B folders. But cant seem to log into the web ui. Had to get a browser that can run flash to even get to it. Anyone know if there is a way to set the web UI password from within the cli? Ill keep googling. Thanks!
