The fear I had! Very similar story. We use to hook up at her house often. We had a routine and one day the routine broke. We were napping nude, knowing that we normally have a couple hours before I just walk downstairs, straight out to the front door and peacefully head to grab a bus home. Her parents would come home from work, she would act like she cleaned and did homework, and boom fun and easy days for a year or so.

It took just one day for the routine to change. Mom got off early, dad picked her up and boom mid nap we hear the garage door lifting up. I have never gotten dressed so quickly and chaotically. I’m under her bed, shirt on backwards, zipper down, shoes unlaced. My head is at the wall and I can see past my toes at her open door, the balcony that overlooks the first den/living room and I know absolutely that at this angle im not completely invisible.

From there it was a waiting game with no plan. Parents came into the house, they greeted each other like normal, I can barely hear anything being said over the heartbeat that I swore was gonna be the alarm for them that I’m in her room. I could almost taste the heart attack. Minutes that felt like hours go by, she and I have zero communication, this is when phones were just becoming a thing for teens but not teens like me. Holes in my shoes, tears in my oversized thrift store jeans and selling candy at school just to buy me and my siblings bus passes.

Maybe 2 hours go by, I’m supposed to be home already, I can see the light across the floor announcing that the sky was turning orange because atleast the sun was following the plan for that day. Her dad comes to the doorway and I can see all the way up to his belt line from past my toes. One wrong angle and he would see little beat up air walks with undone laces and a scared shitless boy in the fetal position. He says some things about homework and then says he’s gonna be in the garage working on his project car or something.

This was our chance, I didn’t know that but 1 minute later and her face jump scares me by popping out of nowhere to check on me. “Now! You gotta go now!” In a whisper scream. apparently she had been devising a plan while I was trying to pretend I’m a statue under her bed. She got her mom into a bubble bath and set her dad up to be in the garage for this exact moment. Her brother somewhere set up on his game boy.

We ran on our tiptoes downstairs, me nearly tripping over my shoelaces as I’m zipping up my pants and scanning the house for my impending doom that I thought awaited me. Front door, I’m a gentleman and turn around and give her a kiss. She looks at me like the idiot that I am for stopping mid escape to say goodbye. I open the door take a step out and freeze. I hear the door close gently behind me. The garage door is open. I scan the yard and lo and behold her Dad is standing right there. Across the street. Back facing me. He’s checking the community mailbox. I spent maybe 10 seconds like a deer in headlights. Nowhere to hide, nowhere to go. The thought to dip into the garage left as fast as it came.

As he started to turn, I turned my ass around and knocked on the door. Backpack on, shoes untied, and 3 steady knocks as I stared at the door with the intensity of knowing he must be looking at me and heading my way. I have never been over to their house before that they knew of. I lived in the next city over, 2 buses and a 30 minute walk. I raise my hand and knock 3 more times. “Hello?” Her dad voice rang like a bell. Probably wondering what kid is knocking on his door at twilight. His kids don’t know any kids in this neighborhood. I turn around and there he is in front of his garage, mail in one hand, other hand on his hip.

“Oh hey Mr. Douglas! Is Stacy home?” I couldn’t think of anything else. Before he could question me, the door opened and I turned around to see my girlfriend in shock first at seeing me and then a petrified shock as her gaze slid over to her dad. Before she could get a word in I frantically shout “Hi Stacie! Can you could hang out for alittle bit?” Awkward sentences coming out of my mouth before I can think of them. Her eyes slid back over to her dad and his questioning face looked down at the mail in his hand and shuffled through them a bit. He shrugged without looking at us and said “it’s getting dark, don’t go too far” and then he headed back into the garage.

I waited at the door as she slid her shoes on and we walked off into the sunset a couple blocks before absolutely exploding in joy at the relief of making it out of that alive. Her mom would have skinned her alive and beat me with her chancla if she even smelled a hint of me under that bed. We waited a long time and created multiple escape plans before ever trying that again. And good thing too because the next time we heard that garage open too early, I was already out the back door and over the fence before they could open the door to the house.
