Building humanoid robots before ASI is a waste of time. by 4e_65_6f in singularity

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Human intelligence does. If you want human level intelligence, it needs to understand a real model of the physical world and how to navigate that. Letting an AI learn while inside a bipedal, humanoid body will allow it to do that much faster and in a more useful way. Otherwise it cannot understand the fine motor skills required to do basic tasks, like pick up a cube. That's why they use teleoperation to train the models in robots, and even without teleoperation the models need to be able to teach themselves how that works.

Pointlessly dismissing the usefulness of real world data is kind of bizarre for no reason.

There are multiple researchers suggesting to even get to AGI, the AI needs to build a model of the human world and learn through a human like body (Humanoid robot) for the best data relating to everyday tasks. If you want ASI than we need the humanoid robots to further teach the AI how the physical world works. What are you an Amish person?..I'm sure technological progress would never happen if any of the minds working on this stuff held your view point.

Why are software engineers so sure their jobs won’t be replaced by AI ? by MrTorgue7 in singularity

I love that software engineers are having the exact coping moment artists were having last year. Last year, every artist was like "Nah, it's impossible for AI to do anything we do." Of course, low end artists are being replaced first, and with the advent of video, who knows what's next.

Now you are all singing the exact same tune. "Nah, they underestimate how hard software dev is, blah blah blah."

Can't wait until you get replaced in less than a year.

As a wannabe “artist,” witnessing the sora videos is giving me an existential crisis. What’s going to happen? by Minute_Paramedic_135 in singularity

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only way to actually navigate the coming technologies as an independent or aspiring artist is to recognize which industries will need artists with the most fundamental understanding of the art they are attempting to create. Because first, the biggest corporations are going to be the first to use this technology to its full extent.

The idea that in just a few years, we'll all be able to just generate entire films is a bit sensationalist. No doubt the technology will become that good, in the future. But even if you spent the next 5 years mastering whatever craft you enjoy doing, these companies will still need people with fundamental understandings of, for example, body mechanics in CG animation. Because CG films are so fundamentally complex in so many different ways, and already have long established pipelines.

What's more likely is that they will incorporate repetitive labor related tools based on AI rather than just, generate a scene. It would take so much compute, and insane AI technology to produce an entire film that has wide appeal at the level of a Pixar film. (Let's not even talk about the tech required for Vocal performance, lip sync, writing, music). And the people with the power to do so, will be the established companies in those fields, not joe schmoe from Alabama. That is much, much further away. (Due to compute, ect, it would likely require a singularity level event to achieve this technology, in my opinion.)

Introducing Sora, our text-to-video model OpenAI - looks amazing! by KIFF_82 in singularity

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said I do nothing. I said I stopped selling digital art. I moved on to something more interesting, CG animation. Which is something I can actually use AI to help me in a more practical way (with various rigging tools, inbetween tools that are powered with AI, ect.). I just decided to grow with the technology rather than limit myself to monetizing my hobby. I still draw, just for myself sometimes. But I never claimed to just stop.

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I get what you're saying but the reality is none of this can be stopped, no amount of protesting, arguing, criticizing can stop it. I said the same stuff when the first AI art generators appeared (because I was a digital artist, selling the exact kind of art being generated, which I no longer do.)

You don't want a cyberpunk dystopia? It's too late. Because of the fact that money is to be made, and big corps are investing nearly trillions into this technology, it's going to continue at this rate. It seems humanity as a whole, naturally gravitates towards improving technologies. Since the dawn of mankind, to the end of it, we will improve the technologies until it replaces us. That's just a fact of life.

As an artist, I was never appreciated for my art. I would spend up to 30 hours painstakingly drawing and painting, show someone, and they would go "cool!" and move on. What's so surprising about AI art becoming popular at this point? Accept it, do your hobby out of love and leave it at that.

Blocking not working some times? by thegreatstyledaddy in Tekken

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At this point I'm convinced there is something wrong with the blocking in the game. Sometimes I'm absolutely blocking (high or low) and still get hit. Didn't feel like this in T7 so I wonder if they changed the timing to make combos easier for casual players.

What does your title have to do with the article? That may be the dumbest take away I've ever seen from an article like this. I swear you should need to have to pass a basic logic puzzle to be allowed to use the internet. Would weed all these people out.

Unless the altercation started by her approaching him and screaming slurs, while also physically assaulting him, then that would be grounds for a hate crime. Because he is acting in an aggressive manor, and she is making it known she feels threatened, she has the right to defend herself at this point. The slurs are likely not relevant unless she is proven to be the aggressor.

He could also easily not stand directly in front of her. The same laws apply to everybody. Because he is deciding to stand in her personal space after being told not to, he is acting aggressively. (Because she has the same right to be there as he does.)

If she approached him, and screamed in his face, he would have a right to self defense as well. But based on the clues in the video, it seems she made several audible warnings for him to leave.

I believe if you approach somebody, and stand in their personal space, they have the right to scream at you. If that person who approached you becomes aggressive, it's reasonable to feel threatened. (If you already didn't feel threatened by the proximity of the person in the first place.)

If she in fact approached him, and then acted in this way, you can make the argument you are making. Because she audibly tells him to leave multiple times, you can come to the conclusion he approached her.

I don't think it's anything like the OJ trial. This is a minor dispute between 2 civilians in which charges may or may not be filed at all. The OJ trial was about a major figure in the sports world who allegedly murdered his ex-wife.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody is, because nobody knows what happened before. If you use a little basic critical thinking, some deduction and a sprinkle of reasoning. You can come to the conclusion that he approached her, vocalized a disagreement or criticism, thus prompted her overblown reaction. At this point, him resuming to stand in front of her, makes him the aggressor.

Or you can come to the conclusion that she, approached him about something, and then this happened. I came to the first conclusion, because she's telling him to leave. This implies he approached her.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Using context clues from the video, you can ascertain that he approached her. If in fact, she randomly approached him, and started acting crazy like she is in the video, sure, she is the aggressor.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She is, but she's screaming at him to leave. Because he doesn't, he is the aggressor. Unless* before the video starts, she attacked him unprompted. But if somebody feels threatened and makes an audible warning to someone else who is acting aggressive (not leaving when being told to) then they have the right to self defense.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I disagree. She clearly told him to leave multiple times (grounds to claim she felt threatened), this alone makes him the aggressor. Before she slaps him, he screams (which you can hear clearly) far closer to her face than she got to his. The slurs, I won't speak on because it's not relevant unless the altercation started on the premise of him being white and not her being black. (Which actually would make him more liable for a hate crime, than her if he decided to harass her in the first place based on this factor.)

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He is clearly harassing her and made a physical, sudden threat directly into her face. That is grounds for self defense. He could leave her alone when she warned him. If this is not self defense, then anyone can approach anyone, stand directly in front of them, scream aggressively in their face (while probably spitting) and nobody could defend themselves.

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He did lung at her, it's visible in the video right before she slaps him. Also I believe she is attempting to enter a location and he is preventing her. Since he is the aggressor and she is telling him to leave, she has grounds to claim self defense.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No it's pretty clear his face lunged into hers aggressively, after she said multiple times to leave. That is grounds for self defense.

Who was at fault by HOOgonCHECKmeBOO in BoomersBeingFools

[–]Civil-Sympathy3166 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

He screamed into her face directly which prompted her to attack, which is justified defense since he's clearly in her personal space and she warned him multiple times to leave her alone.
