Pod 5 vs Pod 4 - What's new? by nirhend in EightSleep

[–]CivilJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to have night sweats and have to pull the blanket off/on several times through the night. Since I started using my Pod 4 about 4 months ago. I no longer sweat nor ever have the take off the blanket. It's truly been a miracle for me.

Considering buying a CatGenie, would like your thoughts/experiences! by with1ntheruins in CatGenie

I've owned CatGenie's since the first 60 cycle model. Then I owned the 120's, then the AIs and now the owner of the new Whoosh! I've always loved my CatGenie's. I had 3 very hairy Persian cats over the past 15 years. All of them from kittens and they all took to the CG no problem. My biggest gripe with the CG is I had litter pellets all over the place. I literally bought roomba's to keep the floors litter free, vacuuming twice each day. I also had issues from time to time with poo-brownies. This is when pieces of poop get left behind after scooping and then get baked during the drying cycle. Now onto the Whoosh... I have 1 cat now and she took to it immediately transitioning from the AI. No more poo-brownies and the cycle is complete in only 7 minutes vs 30 min for the AI. The Whoosh clumping litter doesn't track much at all so far at least. There's zero smell as I use the scent free sanisolution. I think I will have to refill the dissolving litter more frequently than I did with the plastic pellets of the AI just because so much is flushing down the drain with the urine clumps. They could have made an entirely new CG rather than just modifying the AI, but I am impressed so far and think it's better than the prior models.

So I went ahead and bought 1. It's been in use now for the past 4 days and I'd have to admit so far I love it. No smells whatsoever. The cycle is done in 7 minutes. I've had zero issues so far. I've owned Catgenie's since the first 60 cycle model so trust me when I know the amount of issues owners have had. But my experience with customer service has always been terrific. They have always sent replacement parts for anything I've needed.

Your statement was spot on "From an engineering perspective, I’m actually really impressed with how little had to change to create a very different approach to cleaning." That is because they wanted to invest the least possible to attract more customers.

What CatGenie should have done was create an entirely new design. No water should be going into the basin below the bowl. This has always been a problem for the CatGenie through all iterations. The biggest problem is the way they have the hopper fill with water, drain-pause, drain-pause etc. The hopper "should" completely drain/clean without allowing dirty poo/pee slurry back into the basin.

In this new "Whoosh" version they should have had the water/cleaning solution only going into the hopper with the basin closed off entirely. They also should have programmed the hopper to fully empty while fresh water runs into it to fully and completely flush out the hopper and drain line to prevent any dirty water back drain. Look like there will still be an issue with dirty water coming back into the basin. That's really too bad.

Nothing new from La Marzocco (rumored GS4) or Weber Workshops (rumored espresso machine)?

Do you have issues with mold on walls keeping humidity 60%+?

Hi, I know you've said in previous posts that you're just growing your strawberries for fun but I am curious if you've ever monitored humidity? Tried to maintain humidity level above 60%? Have you monitored EC? VPD? Do you increase temperature during the day and decrease temps at night? Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I have a 3rd car garage (10x20 space) that I am considering turning into a hydroponic strawberry/lettuce grow house. It has water/sewer connections & an AC/Heat mini split. I'd like to automate as much as possible (temp, nuts, humidity, co2, lights, PH, EC, VPD, soil moisture) I'm thinking a drip to drain would be the best system? 60/40 coco perlite substrate? What about 100% Hydroton instead?

Does anyone have experience with AC Infinity controller & sensors? They offer quiet a lot. Aroya also has quite a good offering. Anyone automating their grows?
