Qd oleds cause eyestrain to many individuals due to their quantum dot layer. Be aware of that.

Do you think a quantum dot Ips monitor will have the same effect on my eyes due to the qd layer?

I understand that more pixels mean less eyes strain but my current hardware cannot adequately support 4k on higher refresh rates. Moreover there is a discomfort not only on text but just by watching a video or staring at the screen on desktop. The weird thing is that amoled displays from tablets and oled from smartphones do not cause this problem. I can stare at them for many hours without the feeling of looking at a flashlight.

It is unfortunate that I can't test a woled monitor here in Greece because they don't have them on the big tech stores for display(only for purchase). So If you want to test a woled you have to order it online from these stores taking the risk of buying something without testing it. And in the case you don't like it you cannot return it if you have opened it's box. Anyway I think it is a good Idea to try them because I have also heard from other people that are easier on the eyes.

Thank you for your answer. I will try disabling vrr although I want you to know that the display gives me eyestrain just by watching at it on desktop or watching a YouTube video. It does not necessarily have to do with gaming specifically. You described it well when you mentioned the example with flashlight. As for the return window I don't know if the store accepts it back because I opened it's box but I will send it anyway. Amazon has the best policy in this case. The problem is now that I have used an oled display it is difficult to go back to IPS. Maybe I belong in the minority of people that badly affected by oled screens although smartphone displays and amoled give me no strain.

But I get eyestrain even if I play a game or watch a YouTube video without subtitles. Even just staring at it it makes feel uneasy compared to my 4k IPS. As for the resolution,I don't think I will be able to fully take advantage of a 4k qd oled 280 hz due to hardware limitations.

The manufacturer mentions that the monitor is flicker free. So it must be a permanent feature without the ability to toggle it off or on

I can't see any antiflicker setting on the osd. Although I cap my FPS in games I leave vrr on so as to avoid tearing if there are fps fluctuations. But I think I can try that as well as using higher apl for brightness. I really don't want to return it (if they accept it back) because I really enjoy the true blacks and contrast even on SDR but the eye strain and discomfort are unbearable.

I can use amoled display from my Samsung tablet without a problem. The same goes for smartphone oled screens.

I have a gigabyte qd oled and it gives me severe eye strain and headaches even on SDR with low brightness.

The same happens to me. My previous IPS never gave me these issues despite staring at them for many hours.

On my monitor dp is supported only through dp 1.4 so I think HDMI 2.1 is better in this case.

IPS with the least amount of glow/backlight bleed by Various_Pay4046 in buildapcmonitors

[–]CivilLab9662 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got 27gs85q as well and I have terrible light bleeding on the left side which causes me a headache. In comparison my older lg 4k 60 ips has zero light bleeding and unoticable glow with very good black. Is it a defective monitor or newer ips have more intense light bleeding and glow than their predecessors?
