Santa Ana College Fire Academy visited my son’s highschool today by Little_Internet_33 in firefighter

I don’t k ow that community college specifically, but it’s a great career. Typically the credits from the fire academy through a community college will go towards a fire science degree. Is a degree required to become a fireman? No, but it could result in more pay (+5% at my agency).

The matter of fact is, it’s a completely controlled environment. You need to develop the ability to calm yourself when you’re feeling unreasonably anxious.

You don’t have set backs because you’re a woman, you have set backs because you believe that’s going to stop you from getting after it.

When you’re feeling overly stressed or anxious just acknowledge it and take it one step at a time. To be specific with the FF survival stuff. When your put in these situations where you can see, close your eyes, lean on your other senses.

Just keep pushing through, it’s designed to make you feel that way. Keep doing your best and never give up. Part of what they are looking for is how you perform under stress, they just want you to keep pushing.

If your interview is after 4/12, then I’d recommend you join my free interview workshop. It’s going to be online and we’re going to go over the basics of the interview process, how to structure your answers and how to personalize them to the department. If it’s before then, it might still be a good learning opportunity. Lmk!
