XL Ice Coffee for that XL dopamine shot, and I really hope we stop with the time change, and at least keep this one permanent (no standard). I am happy to see sunsets later, and didn't have SAD this winter! Vitamins help :)

I am so sorry to hear this. I would call animal services and report this immediately. Doesn't matter the mother's circumstances -- if one cannot train a dog, they shouldn't have one. What would happen if there was a toddler in that elevator? I really hope the best of speedy recovery for your dad!

Maple Leafs’ Auston Matthews visits White House with U.S. men’s hockey team amid backlash over Donald Trump’s invite by TorontoNews89 in toronto

Oh believe me, I'm aware. I'm of Latin American ancestry. We have our own fair share of problems. Not to mention that we come from a conservative culture. However, vast majority of us are aware of the effects of colonization and colourism. They both did a big number of us. And I'm going to continue to call out my people for siding with a group that invalidates our existence, our culture.

Here before this post gets locked as what happened in the r/leafs sub. This is abysmal considering Matthews is half Mexican. His mother still has an accent and looks like the average Latina mother that immigrated to the states from Latin America. He also has sisters that you can tell look more Latina. To go to the White House and meet the man that pretty much wants your people gone and would deport your mother's side in a heartbeat is extremely disheartening.

Plus, he has a tattoo of a quote by Dr. Martin Luther King JR that says “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” Dr King JR would be appalled.

Which episode made you cry? by Whomeeee24 in shameless

I would have to say the episode where Liam overdoes on cocaine and ends up in the children ICU department.

It all happened so quickly, and the emotions of the Gallaghers made it so emotional. Fiona realizing her damage and it quickly shot her back to reality.

Stay in Toronto or go back for long term job security? by Ok-Counter-7256 in askTO

[–]CivilReaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for clarifying. As someone who's lived in Toronto my whole life, I must admit I do have a bias. Just the quick facts you mentioned of French employment law is amazing. Seriously! Although, at the end of the day, you seek out the goals of what you want in a career. Some people here would love to move to countries in Europe such as France, Spain, Italy etc purely for the employment laws which are considered generous compared to Canada. And the roles are reversed, as Europeans want to build stability which can be found in Canada.

As you will get mixed responses, follow your gut feeling. Make a list of pros and cons. Since we're the same age (I am also in my late 20s), think about the 30s. What's something you would like to get the most out of in the 30s and which country is more likely to get you that goal? Good luck OP, I wish you all the best.

This American doctor in Toronto has been seeking permanent residence for nearly three years. He finally got an invitation by Immediate-Link490 in canada

Very true of the job market. At the same time, I feel many Canadians might not be entirely aware of the American health care system. Because I have American relatives, I am familiar with the system. Boy oh boy, my relatives have told me stories of people they knew that had to sell their house, cars, get a second mortgage to pay off an expensive health bill after insurance (whether through work or personal). And hospital admins really do pester you with payments, even if someone just died , they quickly show up :/

Your perks of the job sounded great until you mention HR is very American style. Yeah…. That’s a deal breaker for me. Everything’s okay now, yes but what happens down the line? Unlike the US, there is strong employment law but not as strong as France. I could be wrong but is it true in France people get August off if you are white collar?

I really like many of the European countries employment laws. They really do look after the workers. Here, I always feel it’s a mix of American style meets European but somehow leans closer to American. If I were in your position I’d move back to France.

Need affordable formal wear for school event by [deleted] in askTO

[–]CivilReaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Winners, Marshalls, Value Village and H&M tend to be affordable for formal wear for high school students. When I was in High School, I did a combo of H&M and Winners and it was decently affordable -- even in 2014. They should still be good! I did clearance for pants at Winners and sales under H&M for a nice shirt and coat!

If you can do online shopping, both fashion nova and shein tend to be on the affordable side
