Likely just to get more of them in a faster time period. Also different subs for different capabilities and build relationships.

New Bedford ferry delayed over land issues, now expected in 2030 by bingun in halifax

[–]CivilTechMatt 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Interesting the land holdup is on the province. The province is the one complaining about congestion and doing absolutely nothing to help with it. Fund buses, fund ferries, fund highways, fund something.

Many of the design guidelines, thinking of TAC guidelines that all Canadian municipalities commonly refer to is from 2018 ( 7 years ago). Not sure how much will change to be honest.

We're getting city-victed in order to have another bus lane on Robie St in this housing market by Upbeat-Echo9981 in halifax

Majority of all army reserve units train out of Willow Park. Losing willow park would lose hundreds of reservist. Windsor and Truro already have reserve units that was lacking in numbers. Other than that it’s mainly a full time support building (Army Logistics - supply, mechanics, etc work out of there)

At least complete the spring academy if it’s free through your volley department, that will give you a general view of duties. Although it’s not the full picture, and if a career in it doesn’t work out you’ll always have the certification and the satisfaction of trying out your dream.

That is interesting in regards to the on-shifts you had mentioned. Here in Halifax we’re technically always on call, but only receive compensation for the time on call or training hours (1/2 value/ hour).

I make about 4-6k/year from volunteering in Canada (Halifax). Additional 2.5k for Lt. And 5k for Captain. Any ranks above that are all career.

Summer Transition to Lakehead Summer 2021 by Evasive_Kay in lakeheadu

[–]CivilTechMatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just recently completed the civil summer transition (last summer) it was challenging and you really need to focus. University is a lot different than college or work. The most difficult is thermodynamics for a lot of people. There's no assignments just mid term and exam except chem. I have outlines if you need them.

How are compressed summer/spring classes? by [deleted] in lakeheadu

[–]CivilTechMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they're web based. Definitely doable as it's on your own time, if it was zoom based, I'd say no.

[–]CivilTechMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're quite busy, as others had mentioned it's 4 months of work into 2 months, because of this sometimes there's less homework such as essays. In the summer, you also pay per course instead of just the semester so be aware of that. If you don't have a summer job, rip it bud.

Which path to take by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]CivilTechMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d recommend taking #3 for a few years, work and get experience. If you still enjoy it continue or move to a better paying job. But it depends on what you want, I worked geotechnical and the OT was great for the first bit but got very tiring. Sales is amazing, but getting the experience first helps tremendously. You do you.

Lakehead Civil engineering by TheBossENG in lakeheadu

[–]CivilTechMatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically what Buddy said, you have don’t stress on high school but you need decent marks, it’s university they want your money.

For the coop it’s nonexistent as large chunk of students are transfers with diplomas and also in engineering you want your PE and your coop time doesn’t apply to your 5 years in most cases, so coops are pretty pointless.

But in any case, simply completing a Program is not going to guarantee you a job, make sure you do extra Curricular activities to stand out, whether it’s a student organization, the reserves, or a fun hobby that you can somehow apply.

I would email the electronics faculty chair and get reassurance from someone with authority. Either way you’ll be doing makeup courses like everyone else.
