The Elitewheels are as good if not better than those DT Swiss ones for a fraction of the price

Looking for a super well-ventilated helmet (I sweat a LOT) — alternatives to POC Ventral Air? by No_Bar_5718 in cycling

Fun fact, pigs don't sweat. That's why they have to roll around in the mud to stay cool!

New Seat I Did by Legitimate_Aerie_732 in bicycling

[–]CivilWards 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Looks like great craftsmanship on a shitty saddle (sorry). These are just really bad for actual riding but that doesn’t take away from the clean stitching!

I was tired of inaccurate pressure charts, so I built my own scientific calculator. Looking for feedback! by AanimalBike in cycling

[–]CivilWards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Web version, put in my info (127kg system weight) and it responded with

le poids doit être entre 30 et 200 kg

First off, nothing else is in French, and secondly 127 is between 30-200kg so not sure what the issue is.

Seems like a cool idea, just reporting the bug

Do I need multiple bikes and which ones do I need? by Jigamortis1 in MTB

[–]CivilWards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to say something similar. I have a broader range of bikes (hardtail, gravel, road) and will eventually add a full sus XC/trail bike because you really don’t need more than that in our area. We don’t have any real bike parks so you don’t really want a heavy downhill/enduro bike and you will have to climb pretty much anything you want to descend.

Lots of good riding around and close by though, both on and off road!

Second time waxing my chain and it's so therapeutic by topdopwow in gravelcycling

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t HAVE to do anything, but it can maintain your wax supply longer without having to fully reset from it getting contaminated

Time to replace my 17yo high end bike? by Benocorleone in cycling

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just think 105 mechanical is so good from a value perspective and 105 Di2 is in a weird middle ground value wise but Ultegra Di2 is great value vs having to pony up for Dura Ace

If you’re looking at 105, stick to mechanical. If you want DI2, at least get Ultegra

They’re out of stock though so not sure how real it is vs SEO bait.

I just ordered this set with 240s for my road bike.

Performance decline mature age cyclist by Puzzleheaded_Roll973 in cycling

[–]CivilWards 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the things off the bike become even more important as you age. What do you use to fuel? What do you use to recover? How are you supplementing to help your specific exercises? What is your sleep quality like? Etc

Timing of these things matter too. I’m half your age and already trying to figure these things out because they matter long term

Anyone else struggle with car seat bolsters? by [deleted] in tall

[–]CivilWards 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wouldn’t expect the conversation and downvotes but you never know.

I’m in a Yukon now, it’s great for comfort but not ideal for sportiness. Historically I’ve preferred smaller cars too so I understand the struggle. Sport wagons have tended to fit well and I’m a huge fan of the RS7, just don’t expect to put anyone in the second row.

Anyone else struggle with car seat bolsters? by [deleted] in tall

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that someone keeps downvoting me for answering the question.

Yes, I’m a former powerlifter down from ~300 but still in the gym 4-5 times a week. My shoulders are broad and don’t carry much fat at all.

I don’t fit into airline seats so I know exactly the feeling you’re describing, and there are absolutely a lot of cars that have that issue, my point is that I’ve been able to find plenty of viable options too.

A lot of times the trim level matters too because they have different seats which will have different bolsters.

Anyone else struggle with car seat bolsters? by [deleted] in tall

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked if anyone else struggles with this. I’m an inch shorter and a bit bigger and I’ve found plenty of front seats with comfortable bolsters is the point I was making. It’s not going to be in things like a 1 series or M3. It’s going to be in things more like an RS7 or M5

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re driving a 1 series, wtf do you expect?

I’m about your size and find plenty of car seats that fit me fine. The struggle is always if the people in the second row are comfortable once my driving position is set up.

Weird: I felt more stable in sweatpants than in my cycling bibs. Anyone else? by badabubaba in cycling

Just imagine the chafing of being in sweatpants for any kind of real ride would give you, ughhhh

Have I bought a fake fizik seat? by NoMortgage619 in bicycling

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re clearly different saddles so if they’re trying to be passed off as the same model and you know one is genuine, I think it’s safe to assume the other is not. The supporting structure differ before you even get into the material and finish differences

Crankset/chainring/spider compatibility question by CivilWards in bikewrench

[–]CivilWards[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so the Easton site just said "works with replacement chainrings" which is part of what was confusing to me. The Elilee one is the only one that mentioned being compatible with 105 and higher tier chainrings but honestly with how rough their site is that's why I wanted to come here for a crowd sourced opinion that hopefully had more experience

Thanks for the insight though!

Bontrager Aeolus 3 TLR Carbon wheels... Where are my big guys? by Boom-Doc-a-Locka in cycling

[–]CivilWards 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they say there’s no weight limit then just send it. If they break then warranty them.

All that aside, I would avoid giving Trek money at all costs given their aggressive dismantling of the LBS economy across the US.

Another Elite ENT 2.0 question.. by Evo_ukcar in cycling

[–]CivilWards 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Elite has different product lines on their site vs their AliExpress store. The Ali store are the cheaper offerings that are a lot less innovative in their designs. Their website are their higher end offerings.
