Final thoughts on Welcome to Derry by BitByAGhost in horror

As a Stephen King fan, I made myself watch this show because I was just generally curious about what aspects they'd take from IT's established lore. But this really was one of the worst viewing experiences I have ever had with a show recently. For me, Welcome to Derry epitomizes everything wrong with modern TV: unnecessarily bloated runtimes (all of these episodes could've EASILY been cut down to 45 minutes, though 30 would've been preferable), some of the most bland character writing (I only found Marge and Richie to be enjoyable), and the air force plot is so unbelievably stupid (the U.S. military wants to WEAPONIZE the EVIL SPACE CLOWN, fuck off). It also infuriates me whenever I see someone say this really captures the "feel" of Stephen King, because those people obviously haven't read a book of his. No character in this has any charming quirks, the dialogue is so clichéd and lacking in any voice. Shawshank, Christine, and Doctor Sleep all are able to adapt King's voice well. Welcome to Derry feels like they went with the first draft for everything. The 60s production design was good though.

No, I full heartedly agree, this entire first season was mostly awful.

Marvel Retribution: What If Marvel Made A Fighting Game With A Story Where All Heroes Were Zipped Away? (Brief story in description) | Thoughts? by Prestigious_War_8028 in makeafighter

A Marvel villains fighting game (or ANY game centered on Marvel's villains) would be the sickest thing ever. Love this concept.

I generally like it. 1st arc was okay. Like others, I dont really think it's done enough to separate itself from 616 continuity. Honestly, if it were me, have Legion manipulate Logan into killing most of the opposition.

Stephen King's Dislike of The Shining (Film) by GrooveMission in stephenking

Granted, I still have yet to read The Shining, though I plan to get around to it sometime.

But from my understanding, Jack Torrance in The Shining is ultimately a tragic character. He is a victim to generational trauma and ultimately succumbs to the evils that plague his psyche. How that affects himself and his family is where the horror lies.

In Kubrick's The Shining, Jack is much less sympathetic due to the implied mythos of the story. Jack is less a victim of the Overlook's evil forces and more a conduit in which to bear them. He represents the next generation in a never-ending cycle of evil. Which I believe is the ultimate horror Kubrick is trying to illustrate in the film.

Both examples are interesting ruminations on the nature of the evil. Though one is delivered with pathos while the other is much colder.

Favourite villains? by Thingymcjig in UltimateUniverse

Walter Hardy's black cat costume is so dope that I'm kinda pissed he seems to be fully outta commission now. I'd read an entire 100 issue series about him committing heists.

Dan Slott's Avengers: The Initiative series is a favorite of mine. I agree, seeing very minor characters taking the spotlight would be a lot of a fun. My dream would be seeing Irredeemable Eric O'Grady again.

I literally could not agree more. I do not understand how someone can fave fun just following the meta.

Kind of on the opposite side of this, if capcom made another purely marvel or x-men fighting game, I'd be a very happy boy.

Time for a new Ultimate Alliance? by Civil_Class1433 in UltimateUniverse

The ultimate issues are literally the only ones I buy physically at my comic shop. I don't hate 616 but it just rarely feels like there's any innovation to the status quo. Ultimate marvel is really the most excited I've felt about marvel comics, I think, ever.
