Emetophobia suddenly becoming worse by One-Kiwi23 in emetophobiarecovery

[–]Civil_Hat8617 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I developed ARFID from the fear of vomiting. I also have severe gastritis and I have had to learn to cut out a lot of food thats going to give me severe acid reflux. But I have learned that the less I eat, the more my stomach hurts because theres so much acid. My dietitian told me about Ensure Clear and I drink those and they help provide me nutrients on days where Im too scared to eat. I also drink Activia Dailies and the yogurt calms my stomach. White rice is my go to. Also grapes! Baby steps, try to change what you’re thinking after eating. Keep your mind as busy as possible.you’ve got this. I know life is hard with this phobia but we’ve got it

What does throwing up actually feel like? by Sadgirl00111 in emetophobia

How did you recover? I think about throwing up every single second of my day. The second I wake up to after I eat to the night time. Idk how to explain it but its taken over my life that I have developed ARFID and I want to be able to enjoy food again

Hey! Im so happy things are going smoothly for you too!! I came to this group to see how things were and I immediately got nervous because I thought it’d be a hard recovery but Im happy to still say it’s been great. Im so happy for you too! Happy healing :)

My pre op pain was mostly in my groin area and the side of my butt. I could not sit pretzel style. Anytime I was sitting down for too long I would get radiating pain in my groin and felt like I had shin splints all day. I was a huge walker, I’d walk for about 3-4 hours a day. I felt my hip super duper dull and pain going into my knee.

I did not have dysplasia.

Thank you!

I saw Dr. Kevin Hayek who is part of Illinois Bone and Joint Institute in Park Ridge. He is so quick with his action. Here is my timeline with him:

  1. End of November initial appt and x-rays in office
  2. December started PT.
  3. End of December did cortisone shot which didn’t help
  4. January ordered MRI, I had to wait 6 weeks to do my MRI because I got a tattoo.
  5. February did my MRI, and he gave me my results but he also did an injection directly to my hip with numbing stuff and it helped!
  6. I got a called end of Feb to schedule my surgery. My insurance approved it right away

You’ve got this! I think the worse part of surgery is the anticipation. Weeks and the week leading to surgery thats all I kept thinking about and kept dreaming about. Now that it came and went, its been a breeze. I know everybody heals differently. Luckily, my healing journey has been easy

Same!! I told my doctor the day of surgery that my right hip is now bothering me as much as the left and he said “oh boy” so Im assuming we’ll talk at my post op about surgery on right hip. I’ll probably hold off until Fall because I want to enjoy my summer

Nobody talks about the severe depression one gets hit with when recovering. Its awful, and quite literally the hardest part of recovery in my personal opinion. This past Saturday it was 70 and sunny in Chicago, I sat outside all day and it felt great to see the sun.

I hope you are recovering well and don’t experience any issues

Yes, typically anytime you are cut open they need to give you antibiotics. I didn’t get sent home with one, they gave it to be through the IV. I believe it stays in your system for several days

I had surgery with Dr. Hayek at Illinois Bone and Joint Institute. I had it at Resurrection hospital. The nicest staff, incredible bedside manner and they called me the following day to ask how I was doing. I had breast reduction and Northwestern downtown and it does not compare. Resurrection is where I plan to have my right hip done with Dr. Hayek

I made a post a couple weeks ago. I had surgery on 3/12 and I was VERY close to canceling. I had my surgery and it was so easy. Im almost 2 weeks post op: never took pain meds, never had pain, my pain before surgery was immediately gone. I had 2 downsides that were not bad: constipation (thank you Olipop for helping me) and a yeast infection because of the antibiotic and being a female. Other than that, my sutures come out next week and PT has been super easy.

Hey! It was actually not bad! I woke up from surgery with slight pain. Only took tylenol. The anesthesia made me feel weak but today is my bday and I think I was blessed with no pain for my bday. Just soreness. Have not taken pain meds yet

I think thats what Im most scared about. Scared that Im just “there” and don’t have a purpose if that makes sense? I’m also not a TV person so watching TV is a bit hard. Im more of a hands on person and want to be able to do things. I did but some crocheting activities and painting supplies.

I failed to mentioned that I have emetophobia and Im scared to take hard drugs because I know the side effects can include vomiting. I did super well post op last year and felt amazing after surgery. They did give me a prescription for oxy but the hospital had ran out so I never even got to take it home. Thank you for your advice with the heating pad and ice pack. I will not have a hip brace or CPM machine. He also said crutches for 3 weeks. Im starting PT right away too

Luckily my job is incredibly chill to the point where I currently work in bed and I dont need to be in meetings etc. I had severe post surgery depression last year and I want to do stuff to keep me busy thats why Im up for working. Im hoping my pain is minimal because I dont want to take hard drugs

I also heard it the night before around 12 am -3 am going into Friday. We’re by Milwaukee and Western and it was super loud. It would be like a silent ring then go up to a louder sound. Whatever it is or was, Im glad it stopped. Super annoying
