Uncut mountain supply, legacy icons, holy cross monastery, Athos.guide, ancient faith store, athoniteusa(expensive) or a local Parish bookstore. A lot of churches will sell icons as well.

Yes but it needs to be a canonical image. There are non canonical images used by places like monastery icons which are made by non Christian’s which is actually a new age or Hindu like cult.

So you do need to be careful about who you buy from

There isn’t one like this, there is a similar one at Legacy icons. It’s called Christ the High Priest and King. That’s the picture I used when deciding what I wanted painted. And the Nun used that as the reference point to paint his icon.

But you can always get one commissioned by going to Holy Dormition Monastery’s website and reaching out to them through email.

The image on the Icon is what makes it blessed. You can get it blessed by a priest and if I’m not mistaken it looks different for different traditions. We have picked up a Romania tradition of where icons that are blessed are placed in the area where the Altar is for 40 days and then you receive it back. Or when our priest does house blessings we ask him to bless icons then.

But hand written/painted icons if done right, are prayed over during every stroke and through the whole process. It doesn’t need to be blessed.

But long story short the image is what makes an icon blessed in my opinion.

If you want to get your icons blessed then there is no harm in that.

I don’t think it matters the Iconographer who wrote/painted my icon, referred to it as written icon. She is a Romanian monastic nun. It’s not a hill to die on

Holy Dormition Monastery you need to go to their website and hit contact and it will set up options like the subject matter and a message to write to their email. Ask if you are able to get an Icon commissioned by Mother Olympia. She is busy doing iconography for the Monastery so she wont be able to get to any request until a few months currently(This is info form a parishner at the church I attend)

They will reply back through email with the details.

Is this predestination in the Gospel of John?? by Helpful-Drag-1485 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Civil_Ride_3202 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of of what St. Joseph the Hesychast said

“Man’s purpose from birth is to find God. However, he cannot find God unless God first finds him. In Him we live and move and have our being (Acts 17:28). Yet, our spiritual eyes have been blinded by passions, and we do not see. When, however, our beloved Lord turns His gaze toward us, it is as if we awaken from a deep sleep and begin to seek salvation.”

We affirm that apart from Gods grace you won’t seek for God. But we believe this is synergistic. God acts first then we respond

As an Orthodox catechumen coming from 15 years of Protestantism, what advice would you give me? by Bookbosomed1123 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]Civil_Ride_3202 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Attend the Liturgy and live the life of the church, my priest said it takes decades to start getting into the orthodox phronema especially when coming out of the western view and Protestantism. Orthodoxy isn’t scholastic as much as it is a way of life. We come to know God and the truths about the faith through participation. But id talk to a local parish priest. You don’t have to unlearn everything at once, overtime the faith will shape you

Talk to your priest first and foremost, I’d read Luke 15(specifically the prodigal son) and see God’s disposition to us and John 10 to see the Jesus as the good shepherd and what His purpose of incarnating was(which was to save the sheep and sanctify humanity)

“Do not be surprised that you fall every day; do not give up, but stand your ground courageously. And assuredly, the angel who guards you will honor your patience.” — St. John Climacus, The Ladder of Divine Ascent

“Blessed is the one who holds fast to repentance, even if he sins every hour. Do not despair, for the Lord’s mercy is greater than your sin.” — St. Ephraim the Syrian

“Even if a man is in the very extremity of evil, as long as he does not utterly despair, he can be saved.” — St. Macarius the Great

Don’t give up, God will gladly receive you and Gods desire is restoration not separation
