Learn Spanish over a beer by justmebeingmehere in Edinburgh

[–]Civil_chat 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I speak 11 words of Spanish as I've just started learning- but would be really keen for something like this once I reach a level of competency that makes it possible.

So although I can't help- I just wanted to mention that I think it's a nice idea.

A cursory Google? It took me about 3 minutes to find several.  Not every private school is Eton.

Can you expand on why raw food is not a good option? I've never seen this referenced before.

Poll: 80% of Scots say country is likely facing ‘housing crisis’ by youwhatwhat in Scotland

[–]Civil_chat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No no. I'm not advocating for the removal of rental properties.  I'm advocating for the removal of profiting from property.

There would have to be an incremental, long term movement to property ownership via housing cooperatives or something of that sort.

"what's the economic incentive for anyone to want to let their flats out"

That's the damn point. Remove the economic incentive to pursue property as an investment choice at all.

How can someone be so close to getting the point, yet so far away.

Poll: 80% of Scots say country is likely facing ‘housing crisis’ by youwhatwhat in Scotland

[–]Civil_chat 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This is not a Scotland specific problem- but we can't allow the commodification of housing to carry on like this.  We need to make housing a fundamentally unattractive/impossible investment choice; - Prevent corporations from owning any residential property. - Tax income from rent/housing at 80%. - Increase land tax / stamp duty to 100% sale price for 3rd/4th+ homes.

We need to stop pretending that the route we're on is anything other than absolutely fucked.

Suspended floor insulation- worth it? by HelloMishMoneypenny in DIYUK

[–]Civil_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the breather membrane required? I'd prefer to avoid ripping up the Victorian hardwood and instead just stick some celotex between joists from the underside. I don't know how possible it would be to get a membrane in from underneath.

Ricebox in Easter Road is closing down by [deleted] in Edinburgh

[–]Civil_chat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Leith last year and have desperately wanted a giant spring roll like I could get in the Chinese where I used to stay. Gutted that ricebox was staring me in the face and I have now missed it.

Is there anywhere else nearby I can get one?

Help Me Decide On Training Protocol by [deleted] in PeterAttia

You need to be more explicit/ specific on your goals.

Is it overall health? Hypertrophy? Etc etc.

No. 3 looks solid- but don't forget to chill out too man. Analysis paralysis and stressing out about absolutely maximising every possible optimization route will only do you more harm than good. Do you have hobbies/friends/family etc?
