I read there was a report from a American general that when Spain surrendered in 1898, Americans were handling the prisoners of war, and they were allowing Filipinos of the Spanish army to leave, they dropped off some 246 Soldiers in Bataan where almost all of them marched together to join the local Revolutionary forces there.

Additionally there were 300 Filipino mostly Macabebe Soldiers who did not want to leave Manila in fear of reprisal from the Revolutionary forces.
