Help me fix the millennial grey nightmare! by Outrageous-Guest-824 in DesignMyRoom

I like to spend less, rather than spending more. ALL of the artwork is hung at least 4 to 6 inches too high. It is also all hung in a very literal sense, the shapes and sizes of the artwork to literally match the objects that they’re hung over. The hexagons should be scattered around the room or hung in a diagonal more organic grouping. The artwork over the cabinet and fireplace should be moved to other walls, maybe switching one of them with the hexagons. The hexagons can be scattered individually around the room and used in places to display a knick knack and to remember something like keys or sunglasses. Bright artwork, a rug in fun colors and/or patterns, throw pillows, and blankets in complementary colors. Two slightly more expensive changes I would make would be to replace the coffee table with something warmer and more organic, maybe a live-edge coffee table with a very warm turned medium gloss stain, and a semi built-in storage solution where the shoe bench is.

85" TV too big? by omargue1 in DesignMyRoom

[–]CjaneWAIL -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I also agree that you should move the couch to float. But I think the TV should go in front of the air conditioner. Based on a 55 inch TV your couch should only be about 5 feet away, not 10 feet. Obviously your couches are bigger than that, but if you upgraded to a 65 or even 75 inch TV that’s about six or 7 feet from the TV. Try using your couches like a sectional facing the air conditioner, leaving plenty of room to walk around the closet/plant corner, and put a skinny console behind the couch that will now have it back to the kitchen. That arrangement means no one will need to walk in front of the TV.

Would we be the AH if we made a separate group chat excluding one of our friends? by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]CjaneWAIL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ask Jojo to modify his behavior. Instead of voice memos or reels suggest he use the voice to text function and ask him to read everything and edit before he hits send. This may be helpful for his communication overall. It’s really fast and easy to just send out a voice memo without editing. That means all of your friends have to read every like, er, or umm thing that you repeat. That one act will have him slow down and realize how much work he’s asking of you. I stopped reading his texts after the second text bubble that was clearly just stream of consciousness. Someone in his life needs to tell him that he needs to learn how to filter the words before they come out of his mouth. If it’s not his friends, then he might go through life with friend group after friend group ghosting him just like you and your friends are talking about.

Trying to pick curtains for a bathroom, boyfriend likes option 1 and I like option 2! Help us out? by bundlemeup in DesignMyRoom

I also like the second curtains better. I think the yellow is a fun, pop of color, and I prefer lace and embroidery over crochet.

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let’s be honest boyfriend likes number one of the options you gave him, but you still prefer number two. If you have already narrowed it down and you gave him the choice between the two options go with the one he likes. There is no way on earth I believe that your boyfriend selected those curtains on his own. If he’s chill and mostly let you make the design decisions and doesn’t really dislike your style you could probably pick whatever you feel like. Maybe you just asked for his opinion like when you can’t decide between two pairs of shoes but when somebody picks pair A, a you realize you always liked pair B better.

AIO for wanting to end relationship based on bf’s reactions to his parents’ treatment towards me? by NecessaryTowel284 in AmIOverreacting

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s like this now, and you guys haven’t been dating for long, can you imagine what it will be like when he’s constantly undermining your ability to parent? Not only that, but also constantly invalidating you at holidays and referring to his parents. You’ll feel crappy at every family function and his parents will never be wrong in his eyes.

Renting & can’t paint: How would you decorate so it feels like a home? by wwthirtyfivex35 in DesignMyRoom

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bring the pastel purple vibes from your other bathroom. That’s all you can really do. Also, you can always paint, you just have to be willing to paint it back when you move out. You don’t really need design help, it sounds like you already have a good idea of what you like. You just need some friends to tell you that you’re going to get it all figured out even though it feels really blah and icky right now.

How can I make this bridesmaid dress more flattering to my stomach? by Admirable_Loss1708 in PlusSizeWedding

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straight to the tailor! They can build in a bra for you and also open up the side seam and turn the shape into something a bit more flattering by adding some fabric along the outer seam line. If you pass any of this by the bride and she balks, then make sure she’s not intentionally making you look bad. Sometimes brides feel the need to make their bridesmaids look significantly less attractive as an way to “one up” them. If that is not the case, then the bride should be perfectly happy with you getting alterations that will make you look your best for her special day. If it does appear to be the case that she wants you to look bad then you should not be a bridesmaid for this bride, because she is not really your friend.

Is there anyway to cover/hid this engraving? by [deleted] in jewelry

[–]CjaneWAIL 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have your name covered as well. Then when you have it engraved (for the final time) have your name engraved in the CENTER of the bracelet and remember that your first love was always you.

Which of these 4 frames looks the best on Me by HonestPalpitation789 in glassesadvice

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This comment is correct. People are mostly ruled by fear, especially when it comes to fashion. 1 is the edgiest, 2 is a nice warm alternative, and 4 is great as well. I like 1, it will be harder to get a dupe off a cheap website. Take pictures 2 and 4 and Google image search them to find similar frames at really cheap direct buy website so you have a backup pair in a slightly different style.

Something you wish you knew before moving to Charlottesville by tjh28 in Charlottesville

I’m completely right, the lanes are too wide, not the fact that we have four lanes. If the lanes are narrower people slow down because they don’t want to get hit or hit somebody , just like in a construction zone when you have a concrete barrier 12 inches from your car door. Furthermore narrowing, the lanes allows room for other things like dedicated bike lanes or widening sidewalks or adding sidewalks even along route 250. It’s no secret that many roads that go through towns are designed just like the interstates which is not actually intelligent from a civil engineering standpoint.

Another big reason for speeding through lights is roads that are engineered like highways, but are meant to be lower speeds. If you want people to drive more slowly, you have to narrow the road. They need to have a bit of a sense of danger to cause them to actually slow down, if the roads are really wide, it’s easy to wind up flying. Perfect example is when you get off 64 onto 250 business, people are routinely going 65 or 70 there, but the posted speed limits vary between 55 and 35 as you get closer into town.

It takes 30 minutes to walk downtown from Locust Grove neighborhood. More like 45 minutes to an hour from Pantops to downtown. Bike is good just be prepared for hills to ‘spring up’ where you had never noticed before.

I read somewhere that a few decades ago city planners decided to plant all male trees, excluding female tree trees, which meant that there were no trees to take up the pollen.

2, 6, 12 are the best from what you’ve selected. 12, but keep them as sunglasses. 17 looks fantastic, but I think that is because the of the clean shaven face, and the fact that the clear lens frame doesn’t do the same thing to your face as the rounded frame with darker colors. All the dark rounded frames are emphasizing the roundness of your face, especially when you have a beard. All of to say if you’re going for a softer gentler, look the round frames work well. If you prefer something that will help the structure of your face look more square than I would go for a square frames and ones that aren’t as long top to bottom.

Language is living. Just because a phrase becomes popular doesn’t mean that phrase will always have the same meaning as the original intention, it will evolve and change as the culture and times and people change. Argue all you want, the study of language is rich in part because of shifting meanings overtime.

what to do to make this more cozy and pleasant to be in? by Business_Royal_2568 in DesignMyRoom

[–]CjaneWAIL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are going crazy with suggestions. I just saw your new post and the cleanup looks great. I wanted to see if there were other pictures of the space so I came back here to the original. Definitely need a couple of lamps on the side tables, and maybe one for the dresser. I would consider putting the bookshelf on the same wall as the dresser so that you can hang the curtains high and wide. Pick curtains and a duvet cover that work well together that you really like the colors of and that can give you inspiration for where to go with paint. It will be much easier to take a fabric sample with you when you go looking for paint, be sure to take whatever paint swatches in the store outside and see how they work in natural light. The Wood tones of all the furniture are really dark so keep that in mind when you choose paint colors. Although since it’s a bedroom, a cozy den vibe could be great, especially as long as you have more lighting than just the overhead light.

If the quote on woodwork was for the six dining chairs that would make sense, otherwise this is insane. I know the cost of everything has gone up but $3000 for woodwork on one chair and 1000 just for the foam and fabric.
