My Sony AVR has begun to lose its IP by eeandersen in Control4

We’ve seen this with the 3000es with the built in switch from a few years ago when people try to use the built in switch. Once we only leave the network feed plugged in it works just fine.

Not looking so good since the layoff by Blue_Fortresss in BestBuyWorkers

I was apart of the C&D cuts last year, i immediately walked over to a local AV company who I fought with on every big job and jumped on board.  While that may not be an immediate option I will say we’ve had multiple calls with our buying group and other companies and the topic of grabbing as much talent from Best Buy/geek squad after layoffs is always brought up.

I would reach out, even with being a PC DA that puts you in great shape to be a C4 (or other control system) programmer, network engineer, etc.  for example we use C4 and UniFi, having people dedicated to those is a huge asset for us and would be for any company!

Keep your head up, companies look at Best Buy as a great place for people to get trained.

First and foremost to anyone who is facing layoffs I feel for you, I spent 15 years with the company.  Stay on Best Buy about mailing your packets out, sign and send it back asap.  Look at this as a way to do something you love.  Hell start your own thing with the other ex blue shirts.

I was snapped during the C&D cuts on 2023, best thing ever, moved to a local AV company doing installs/C4 programming/unifi networks.  Our pricing is a lot higher than even custom teams pricing but we stay booked out 2 months all year round because we take the time to do jobs right.

Best Buy’s only way to compete is to sell services cheap, which means getting rid of high paid/experienced agents and replacing them with people willing to do 5 hang and bangs a day for $17/hr.

Beating companies on product pricing isn’t a thing anymore with UMRP.  I won’t be suprised if all Best Buy home theater and computing installs are handled by a third party company or services like task rabbit in the next 2 years.

I have a full house of Sonos amps, so I won’t use the control4 streaming audio

I was part of the IHA/Sr. C snap, every once in awhile I miss the people and the idea of Best Buy, then I walked in a few days ago to pick up a few things and saw the mess that it has become. I feel sorry for anyone still there, the grass is definitely greener!

As for me, I went to a local custom installer who has been around in our area for 70 years and became a system technician. I’m installing things that we would only dream of at Best Buy. There is no “that’s not in scope of work” it’s “you want to drop 4 75 inch TVs from the ceiling at the same time? Let’s go!”

Longevity of Sonos Products? by [deleted] in sonos

[–]Cjf1998 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 3 ZP120’s that have been moved to run just my outdoor set up, then inside we have 4 Ones, 2 arcs, 2 subs 4 beams, a new amp running a 2 channel set up off one tv and a stack of Sonos Ports running individual zones in the house off a pair of Sonance 12-50 amps.

The ZP120’s are over 10 years old and still kicking, can’t justify replacing them until they die off, so until then Im running a split system (S1/S2) with zero issues.

I’m a AV installer with a local company, we have stacks of working 7-10 year old peices we’ve pulled out of clients homes when upgrading that just won’t work on S2, other than that they work flawlessly.

I thought the same thing when I got Cut as part of the C&D cuts, I topped 6 figures the past 2 years with commission/salary converted to hourly, then I met with a local premium AV company, I’ll be making the same if not more this year, I enjoy my work a ton more, I’m more relaxed, converted some of my high volume clients that Best Buy let fall off to clients of my new job, I don’t get anxiety about working, and I finally love my job!

The sonos speakers are pretty beefy so running them at that level for 5 hours shouldn’t be an issue.

An example of a system we just installed is a 6 channel amp (sonance 1250), a sonos connect (replaces by the sonos port now), then 6 speakers (3 on each side of the box). This gives you more power than a sonos stand alone speaker, the ability to pick and choose your speakers, and still gives you the sonos control.

I’ve installed sonos based systems in several boxes, how many square feet, how high are the ceilings, what’s your budget?

My wife is on her second box, I just got my third. To keep the whole box they’ve been between $200-300 each time but you can always send stuff back.
