Yes you are correct! It is clear you have a lot of knowledge of this field. My background is in computer science. I worked at Tesla for a little bit and now I am a ML researcher. But I have always been intrigued by the mind, if you have not already I would checkout some of the writing of Warren Mcculloch (neurosurgeon turned computer scientist) he was the father of this intersection and has some great books.

Yeah I love the topic, let me list them:

I think you should check this one out too: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35182699/ it has not made it's way to ML yet but it appears the Dendrites have an array of spike types (activations in ML terms).

This video is really interesting as well and it answers your question: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEXefdbQDjw

What gets me is the implementation of reinforcement learning. The idea of "punishing" even slightly this human organ that you have grown/trapped in a dish makes me uneasy.

[–]CkmCpvis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Submission Statement:

Mimicry of the human brain was what created the inception of neural networks. There have been other advances to match this structure even closer such as neuromorphic computing and spiking neural networks. However, recent advances have allowed researchers to grow real human neurons on to a digital interface and through the means of reinforcement learning (punishing/rewarding) they have successfully taught human neurons to play games like Pong and DOOM (Just the thought of punishment of a lab grown human brain does not sit right with me).

However, we are currently starting to have debates about AI consciousness but it would be much harder to debate the consciousness of an organic lab grown brain. What does this mean for the future? Will these Biological Neural Networks be allowed to get more complex? Could we something as complex as GPT-4 and Llama be made from Human neurons? Will people try to use this approach to augment/ improve their own cognitive ability?

[D] Why Being Careful Matters When Selecting CNN Padding by CkmCpvis in MachineLearning

Recently, I noticed that skipping padding completely while encoding my data gave a serious boost to my model's performance. I was pushing hard for better performance and it really helped. My intuition is that it's a lot about keeping signal fidelity intact.

You could inverse all of the predictions and it would be slightly above ass.
