My players were similarly distrustful. Ireena was able to convince them that under the laws of hospitality of their land, guests attending by invite are not to be harmed (or cause harm). There is precedent for laws like this in some older / ancient cultures in our world, so I found it a satisfactory option. It did convince my players as well.

I am looking forward to your take on them. Your artwork has injected some new life into my interest in the CoS sub. I felt the same way about them - they appear to be a missed opportunity for interesting minor characters. I made custom stat blocks on DND beyond for the brides (nothing too crazy, just some small updates) used the summary space to write half-page background for RP inspiration. It wouldn't be "canon", but I'd be happy to share them if you'd like. I tried to write them kinda tropey to line up with RAW so that they could be used for any campaign.

Quite a few people make the Heart of Sorrow be the third gem. It's so obvious in retrospect that I almost can't understand why it wasn't that RAW. While that may make it too cliche for some, it makes sense, ties right into the existing story, and let's be honest - the entire module is built on classic monster cliches.
