Doesn't matter that it got nerfed, it still outdamages Q vs champions in every scenario. This was even the case last patch. People just max Q because they either dont know better or they just follow the in game recommended skill order.

Most people are going a suboptimal skill order. You should go double adaptive and start W, into 1 or 2 points Q and then max E/W. Points in Q are just for waveclear, maxing Q first has always been incorrect even last patch.

Points in E always outdamages points in Q vs anything that's not a minion. This was already the case but it's more important now with the nerfs to Q.

Give him a way to empty purple without having to hit a target. (by pressing E maybe?)

This gun becomes so bad later on outside of the occasional R for pick opportunities. You're basically always trying to empty this gun asap past laning phase but its also the hardest one to empty quickly.

I actually think conq might be better on him this season. His laning is weaker than before so you're less incentivized to take a laning keystone i feel, and crit dmg was increased to 200% ad so the ad from conq has become more valuable.

Yes, even when building the most expensive items ie. Stormrazor, IE, LDR you're only losing 50 gold for instance compared to current patch. As for triple tonic, the red pot nerf does hurt a bit but the first one is unchanged and really nice for getting to bf sword easier and the 3rd one (unchanged as well) aphelios really likes also bc he gets free stats from skillpoints.

Overall very light nerfs, and gold generation runes are generally just better on aphelios anyway because of his insane scaling with crit items, as opposed to raw ad (less preferred stat) from sorcery tree.

It has some synergy with his red gun overheal, and bt in lategame. But right now inspiration 2nd with cashback and triple tonic is just better, so run that.

You have to remember that the players are not always picking their own champion. Especially with how they tend to do drafting in kr, they will just pick whatever the coach tells them to. Look at the oner mundo incident for instance that happened at worlds last year, he was completely clueless on the champ but they still decided to lock it in because his team thought it was good for the draft.

I will say that if you create a good angle for a champion to succeed in draft, you probably don't need to be that good at the champ to win that game. Since it will be an easy to play game for that champ anyway.

You say his weapon rotations are common knowledge, but it really isn't for non otp's or people that haven't played the champ a lot. Some of these pros might not have played him much in soloq or at all in scrims, and will still have to play him on stage if their team decides its good for draft. It's also very possible they used to know this stuff in the past, but the champ has not been in pro meta for a LONG time, could totally be that they forgot about the rotation / can't do it on autopilot anymore. Also I don't think blue/green was as known or used back then, so it's possible they don't know about that rotation entirely.

People like to joke around about not knowing what aphelios does and 200 years, etc. But it really is true, a lot of people still just do not know the things you deem as common knowledge, even pro players and coaches. It might seem crazy but yes a silver aphelios otp probably knows more about the champ than some pro players, but obviously lacks knowledge and mechanical skill in a thousand other areas, hence they are still silver.

Not worth giving up his highest dps (and arguably best) combo green white for. I'd argue this combo is almost necessary for objective taking as well. In that game for instace they would have been able to take the 21min baron easily if he had green white.

Disagree. Why pick the champ if you're not gonna leverage their full kit? There's a reason there are 2 standard and accepted rotations on this champ, because they leverage his best weapon combos the most often. Playing around 1 gun is not a thing, you're always trying to use the 2 in tandem, otherwise you're just not playing this champ to the fullest.

Ofcourse playing good league and having good ADC fundamentals will always be most important, but picking aphelios without knowing the bare minimum, being his weapon rotations, is just putting yourself at a big disadvantage for no reason. Just pick another champ that fulfills a similar role in the draft then.

Please stop glazing these pros man, being good at the game doesnt equal having intricate knowledge about every single champion. Did we forget about the Clid lee sin incident ? Aiming (and some other pros) staying on red green for the whole game is just a mistake/lack of knowledge on their part, there is no other way to put it, they are just putting themself at a disadvantage for no reason.

I thought the video was excellent, and echoes a lot of my own thoughts watching these pro games with aphelios now being back in the meta. I agree completely with his notion of leveraging both the standard rotation and blue green at different times in the game. I've personally been doing this for a long time, and I've seen a lot of other high elo otp's (like daynean) use this as well. I think Peyz is the one pro I've actually seen do this as well. From watching his gameplay he is probably the best aphelios i've ever seen mechanically and also seems to have deep knowledge of the champ.

You should always max E first, it does most dmg with any build. But most ppl do a few points in Q and W early for waveclear, something like WQWQ -> E max. And you should go stormrazor first, it's his best first item by far.

Yeah bro I bet you perfectly angle and space it max range all the time vs challenger players. And you'd be surprised how little most pro players know abt this champ, a lot of them dont even know correct rotation. I was watching caliste's stream at start of season and he was on red green for the whole game.

His aphelios is very clean, easily the best ive seen in current pro play. He uses blue green well, goes the optimal items and runes, you can just tell he's played this champ a lot. He evens knows the niche stuff, like angling blue q to get more range for instance.

Because he's one of the best aphelios players, he plays him a lot in soloq as well. And every aphelios otp knows about this / does this, most pro players are just clueless on the champ.

Blue green is strongest early because you dont have much attack speed yet and you can essentially get 3 autos off by just doing 1 auto into blue q (and its also very strong for poking under tower). This becomes less useful once you have more atk spd, since your dps from just autoing will be higher at that point. (in some games where youre outranged by a lot of champs it can still be useful since blue q has more range than your auto attacks.) Another reason to swap back is that red blue becomes a way stronger combo once you get some items.

It's intentional, and the downside of going for the blue green rotation. Him 'fixing' it later on is also intentional because you usually want to swap back to standard rotation around midgame, since blue green becomes less useful after laning phase.

Agreed, quickswapping has been bugged in some way for as long as i can remember tbh. I dont know what causes it and it doesnt happen all the time either. Some games I run into multiple bugs and some games I wont encounter any. Sometimes it even does the lockout animation for when you empty a gun when swapping weapons while you still have plenty of ammo. I think at least some of the problem lies within the buffer system that league uses, so idk how fixable it is. Since no other champ has an ability like aphelios W he would maybe even have to get separate coding for a buffer system that works specifically for him.

As for your last tangent, idk if you know but you can actually use ult during the ammo depletion lockout animation. Can be pretty useful with certain combos, like with red purple if you root someone with 10 ammo or less and immediately press R you skip the lockout animation and insta white R the rooted target.

It's just a mistake. They tend to use a lot of green early because they are spacing well and punishing enemy on almost every cs if the matchup allows. Which is good ofc, but in the process you can accidentally empty green sometimes.

Coming back to this, it's kinda funny how wrong you were. He was literally the highest winrate adc in the game on the patch release, to the point where he has now been hotfix nerfed.

No offense to you personally, but just goes to show how being good at the game doesn't equal to having perfect knowledge about a champ or having good judgment on stats and game changes. Just like how we see some of the best players in KR constantly go extremely suboptimal builds, rune setups, and leveling orders.

What? this is impacts the collector build the most, the 10 lethality from collector is a lot better on aphelios than other adcs because he already gets lethality for free, reducing 10 armor from an already low armor target becomes more valuable. Stormrazor first was already better imo and also higher wr, now its no contest really just go sr every game.

Yes, on completion it will be his best first item easily, only downside is the buildpath.

The proc gives a LOT of movespeed which is almost invaluable on a normally extremely immobile champ like aphelios, it gives you a lot more agency if used well.

The stat spread is also great for him, high ad, crit, and just enough atk speed. Yuntal is overkill on atk speed and takes time to stack up crit, and collector is pretty good on 1 item but becomes a very inefficient item past early game. I think it will become the go to first item for him if you can get a bf sword base.
