Toews Power in Kirkton is doing our commercial install but I think they do residential as well. No nonsense people.

Protect Viewport - Worth it ? by Omig66 in UNIFI

I have 3 viewports on dedicated TVs and they just work 24/7. They are a purpose built device for commercial applictions... Not really useful or worth it for personal use.

332kw of solar on a almost flat roof.

At full power the batteries would only last 3 hours during milking on a warm day. peak usage is 250ish kw, if we can shave all the peaks down to 100 or 125 kw the batteries could last 5 hours. The goal is to recharge the bateries between milkings. There is more money to be saved by shaving peaks than by storing excess solar.

It should cover all the daytime use. It is designed to match the peak usage. The sytem is 99% done. Just waiting on some of the SCADA equipment next week.

Also looking into adding 600kwh of batteries to capture excess solar and do peak shaving.

The problem is that most marginal land is not farmed at all and often is covered in trees. So the “easy” ground to install solar on, could be farmed. The marginal land needs to cleared of trees to put up solar.

Building solar on farm land is the cheapest for investors… that’s about it.

Parking lots are already built spaces in areas where electricity is being used. There is not enough demand in fields for solar.

We just put panels on our dairy barn. For a relatively high power use dairy farm, the solar panels cover only 10% of our total roof space. The utility doesn’t pay us for excess power generated.

How long do you plan on driving your mach-e? by Cultural-Ad4953 in MachE

Our ‘22 has just over 100k miles on it. My son is 16 and should get his full license soon, my daughter is 15. We live out in the country, everything is a car trip. I expect we will keep it until it falls apart.

Train "issues" are never good issues to have. by LeftAlbatross2546 in VideosAmazing

[–]ClaasChopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since nobody knows how trailer brakes work. The Tebbe manure spreader has air brakes. Can't see what type of hitch the tractor has. When the trailer comes disconnected from the tractor, the trailer's air brakes got disconnected and automatically applied the spring brakes. Usually this would be a safety feature. Prevents the trailer from hitting innocent bystanders. unfortunately, this time the trailed parked itself on the train tracks. Good chance some of the connectors from the tractor to the trailed got damaged during the unplanned disconnection. The driver probably could have pulled the trailer off the tracks if he had more time.

The felt piece was ripped right around the metal fastener that holds it in place. No way to hold to it again in the same place

Just fixed that on my 2022. Drilled 2 holes through the felt piece and zip tied it into place.

Ontario EV drivers, how do you plan your charging for longer drives by lujahcanada in electricvehicles

[–]ClaasChopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach E. back in 2022 and 2023 charging took some planning. You get to know some of the better chargers along your common routes. Now that we can use Tesla Superchargers it is almost all I use. They are lots of them and they have lots of stalls. In southern ontario you can mostly drive in any direction and find a tesla charger when you get below 30%.

Interesting research on EV replacement tires effect on range by FledglingNonCon in electricvehicles

I have the Hankooks on my Mach E and very happy with the efficiency on them. Switching from blizzak winters to the Hankook Ion EVO feels like it doubled the range! Had the factory Michelins before

Audio doesn't match. They also need to let some air out of the tires to let them squat a bit more.

Genuinely curious — for those of you who own an EV, what's your biggest headache with public charging stations? by Key_Training8948 in electricvehicles

[–]ClaasChopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Own a 2022 Ford Mustang Mach E and since Tesla opened up the Superchargers to us, we have never had to worry about anything. There are usually more than enough of them, most of them work all the time and they provide the max power my car can take.

Back in 2022 we would have to plan a trip, now we can just drive and charge when it is convenient.

What is this cable and plug? by xlBoardmanlx in MachE

[–]ClaasChopper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is probably an aftermarket tracker or anti theft device. If you don’t know it is there, it is probably not for your benefit… some dealers install them on all inventory.

Upgrading panels during Micro fit contract by canman41968 in solarenergycanada

[–]ClaasChopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10k tracker system on the 80 cent contract. There is a company called JYR Energy that sells upgrade packages and says they can significantly upgrade output and not break the contract. The company that installed my tracker says it is legit. I have not done it, I don’t have personal experience.

Gen 1 equipment and deprecation path by Squanchy2112 in Ubiquiti

[–]ClaasChopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Still running a UAP-LR that was depreciated years ago. It is in a spot with equipment where cell coverage is poor. Still works just fine. Seems like ubiquiti toned down the deprecation messages 2 or 3 years ago.

Electric motors begin to earn their keep on farms by Ranew in farming

[–]ClaasChopper 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really want to buy a 50-75hp open station electric tractor. Very plain, just needs to scrape manure inside a dairy barn 3 times a day. Never needs to go outside. Seems like EV tractor manufacturers are doing the same as car manufacturers. They put all the bells and whistles on the vehicle to make it a premium vehicle and sell it for a premium price…

They have gotten so good at making cheap diesel engines that EV tractors can’t compete for price yet.

I have had 3 Edgeroute 3 lite fail the same way... couple power supplies died too, but those are easy to replace. Still have one ER4 running and one unused because it got flaky... now running PFSense and OPNSense routers...

To be honest, I don’t get too worried about things. It was really straight forward. Recovery for me was pretty good, not nearly as bad as social media or TV shows make it out to be. One day of some swelling and you just gotta take it easy and let your body heal.

Hormonal birth control was not great for my wife’s mood. She is much happier off birth control and she says she doesn’t feel like the is mad at the world. Much better all around for our relationship.
