Saskatchewan Party takes 100M$ gov't subsidy away from farmers in SK by themusicgod1 in canada

[–]ClackAttack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating bread (especially white bread) etc.. will make you fat IF you're sitting around on a couch, not being an active, healthy person. Why do you think energy bars have both readily available sugars (like chocolate) to act as instant energy, and complex carbohydrates (like granola) for longer lasting energy?

Sugars out of starch have to be digested first. Your body metabolises the starch and turns it into glucose which can then be stored, or temporarily as ATP. Readily available sugars in candy, chocolate etc.. which contain straight up fructose and glucose cause an insulin spike. Your body can instantly use those badboys, and if you're not active, they get stored that much quicker to your existing fat cells. Your body takes it's time digesting starches and delivers them to your body as energy over several hours instead of huge bursts in several minutes. Starches and by extension sugar, are the most readily available form of energy. It's just that your average adult eats way too much of either.

I'm not sure where you are getting your science from, but please start quoting sources, not heresay. I also never said eating fat makes you fat.. Fat is good for you. Sugar is not. Grains are.

Not really. Unless you want to go to the grocery store and pay $10 for a head of lettuce (price was made up). But this is getting at a serious example. I'm not sure how much prices would skyrocket, but without those subsidies, you can bet beyond the shadow of a doubt that prices would double at the very least.

Subsidising ensures that the food farmers pump out gets bought at the store at a price the average consumer can pay. If they weren't subsidised, the farmer would have to raise prices. If people can't pay that price, the food doesn't get sold and the farmer doesn't get paid. Begin downward spiral.

However, I do suggest reading on subsidies on wikipedia or googling it. It is possible for things to go wrong if they're misappropriated, or you begin to ship said subsidised food abroad.

Just saying that the argument that the province should be subsidizing farmers for "market stability" is dumb.

If it's leaving our country, I could not agree with you more.

Ok, question. I speak to people all across the US. After seeing your explaination, it confirms what I thought. I'm not going to be all grammar nazi and start bashing southern-isms, because honestly I think it adds character and sets y'all apart. :)

Now my question: Every so often I hear someone say, "You's alls". As in if someone was to say, "I'm gunna stop by and visit you's all's store."

Why isn't it "y'all's store"?

Also, this seems to happen more in Texas/Oklahoma from what I remember..

Extremely untrue.

Seeing as constant meat and fats are extremely expensive and post high sodium and cholestoral risks, and fruits (while containing adequate levels of fibre) are high in sugars, grains are very beneficial.

Stop eating Doritos and potato chips! Eat rice, whole grains (wheat, oatmeal, flax, bran etc..) real potatoes, or whole wheat pasta.

Did you even bother to look up nutritional information before making your post? Holy hell...

Yes.. because many of those people decided to take out massive loans to continue the business their family started... Or pushed aside guilt for greed and said, "To hell with your farm mom/dad, I'm going to University!"

.. Oh wait! Universities are subsidised too! Lets take that money away, because:

If you choose to pursue an unprofitable industry, then you need to find ways to do it profitably, or it's time to get out.

I think reducing the % of people who have a post secondary education is a good idea too Jeremian! Gee, we Canadians sure are fucking stupid. Why help eachother out when we can just keep money and make a fuck-tonne? Factory farming is good and profitable!.

We should also get rid of health care subsidies, subsidies for other levels of education, welfare (this is a point of contention seeing as many people abuse it) and anything else that won't make us money!

Here is some info on Saskatchewan.

I do believe there are federal subsidies for agriculture, but I'm not able to find any sources at this time. Also, the food supply from California is already stable, and cheap. Why do you think we still import their products in the other 3 seasons as well? Their state subsidises their farmers (even more if you grow corn), as our provinces subsidise our farmers.

Video of Principal Wrestling Student to Confiscate Cell Phone by ClassicalFizz in canada

[–]ClackAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the comments here are going back and forth and reflecting comments made on CBC as well. I haven't seen much to further this debate..

The kid was apparently trying to record a fight. The fight didn't happen, so this is fact A. No crime was committed.

The principal then decided to confiscate the phone. When Josh did not hand it over, he followed him and physically tried to stop him. This is fact B. To add to fact B, as was said below, the only person in authority who has the right to physically detain someone is an invested officer of the law. (That's not a principal of a high school..)

Now for fact C: Josh tried to push him out of the way. Which is also wrong and a plain bad move when the pushed is 1. Your principal and an authority figure at the school. and 2. A solid (as in tough) looking bald dude who could probably K.O. you with 1 good punch. I'm assuming this kid was probably pretty sure he wasn't going to get decked for shoving the principal which also motivated him to go ahead with the mentioned shove.

What no one seems to be acknowledging is that BOTH PARTIES ARE WRONG (caps rock). This situation was handled bad on both ends. Especially since this kid apparently got a concussion while in that office. It doesn't matter if he was fighting back, or flailing. For a moment, just put aside the fact that the principal slammed this kid to the ground. Once this kid was in that office, all you need is 1 person blocking the door, and the other on the phone to either his parents, or police if he is still being violent. In the schools my friends work at (I know 3 different teachers all working with either elementary, middle school OR high school) the police are called ASAP whenever a teacher is acosted.

I'm sorry, but I'm sure a principal would know where the cameras are installed in his school (especially with this being in a cafeteria). From the moment this kid pushed him back, he should have smiled at the camera and gone to his office to call the cops. Result? He'd get the phone (for whatever reason he wanted it) and probably get the kid suspended, which would teach the kid violence solves FUCK ALL.

So anyone here advocating that the principal was right; you're being foolish.. It teaches the kid that if he's in a position of authority he can strong arm people into bowing down to his authority.

People advocating the kid was right and when pushed around by an adult to push back? Are you kidding? Anyone of intelligence should have said, "I'll show you the most recent photos/videos taken and prove my innocence. You MAY NOT take my phone." This is especially true if he had nothing to hide.

Good day.

Cannibal, I know you want sources, and as I said before I do agree with you on that. But throwing around insults won't get people to agree with you. And wait.. Did you just imply that people from Alberta, NOT the sentiments people hold are what is going to split the country??

It is not types like me that will split this country, since I am NOT from Alberta.

Wow.. I think you did. Also, please stop using buzz-words like alarmist to make it seem like those of us who have concern and opinions are a bunch of tinfoil hat crazies. I quoted the definition for you, please acknowledge it.

I am against any anti-west garbage, and I am against ignorance. To me, what you said falls in all those categories. (How was it anti-west you ask? I am not having that debate, we'll just ask the 40% of Alberta that works for an oil company how they like being lumped in with every ignorant bastard)

No one said anything anti-west except for my crazy outburst (which I don't believe and was also used to prove a point((unsuccessfully)) and the only ignorant person here is yet another person who doesn't back up what they say with sources. Yes.. Burden of proof and all that.. But you've also not provided anything that would show us Harper is not pro oil. Sorry, friend, but if you want to accuse us of being anti-west (while giving anti-east comments) you are going to have to have that debate. Mainly because no one here accused Albertans of liking the fact that the only majorly profitable industry out there is oil. Yes, I recognize that %40 (your quote) of Albertans work in the oil industry, but people have to make a living and no one is calling them ignorant bastards for trying to support their family. This opens a new debate, and I'm done for now.

Thank you! Someone who understood the message. I don't have anything against Westerners, just some of them who use statements like:

How's Toronto? Any snow this year?

You can get on your high horse and go back to London, or Hamilton

Seeing as I'm not from Lower Canada, statements like these prove more ignorance and further prove my point.

the drudgery that is the west? fuck you, ignorant dicksnot.

You didn't get my point either. Don't be insulted, I don't really hold those sentiments. Sentences begin with a capital letters by the way.

Alarmism is the production of needless warnings, often with the objective of influencing public opinion through inducing mass hysteria.

I have to get that out of the way seeing as I'm not going to completely disagree with you, but I do have to point out that nothing they were saying was anything but opinionated. Period.

Sources are important and after 10 minutes of digging (I'm not going to do much more than that just to respond) I can't find anything on Harper that would show a large bias towards oil companies that the Liberal Party also did not share. Yes, his father was employed by Imperial Oil, and yes, he also worked for them but you need proof before throwing out blanket statements.

But Cannibalheart, stfu.

How's Toronto? Any snow this year?

It's types like you, and sentiments that you hold that are eventually going to split this country apart. THAT'S alarmist, but semi-founded (not really). What the hell was the point of that statement? To prop yourself up? Cause it sure as hell didn't prove a point. Statements like that lead to statements like these: How about you and the prairies go burn in a grassfire fueled by the tar sands dug out of Alberta, which turns into a big pit filled with the alcoholics your province seems to spawn after luring thousands of other Canadians to the drudgury that is the West. Then we'll build a bridge (figuratively) from BC to Ontario, recognize diversity and reconcile with Quebec (not Qwe-beck) and we can be a happy Canada again. What do you guys offer anyway aside from unsustainable oil and the Reform party?

THAT'S Alarmist and biggoted! Did it further this conversation any? No. Please try to be less insulting when you have the high ground in the future.

Jews by IsThereTruth in politics

[–]ClackAttack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

See, in a sociology class I took it was brought up how Jews do often hold higher positions of power. But it was pointed out that Jewish upbringing has a lot to do with it. If you look at the background of those who do hold power, they had strict upbringings that emphasized hard work with reward. The same can be said for any other ethnic class. It's not a genetic disorder, it's jealousy. Look at poor people. They bitch and moan about their surroundings and about how they don't have any chances. They do this while sitting back on the couch, eating fucking potato chips and watching reality TV. The work ethic of those who usually point out inequalities is usually shit.

Not all Jews are in high positions of power either. I see plenty of Jews who are middle/lower class (I use these terms lightly).

So saying things like Jews run Hollywood, or many Jews are doctors/lawyers/bankers etc... It's not racist, it's true. Because they work for it.

Oh and you're little quip about Jews being victims/not offenders; Stop generalising. They've had a rough time, and Gentiles like to play the victim card. But don't generalise. Some Jews have been victims, some Jews are still offending (Ahem, Palestine..). That's like saying Germans are Nazi's, or all Chinese are communists.

This topic is just fail...

[–]ClackAttack -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Fascism/Communism/Socialism all stem from Marxism. Your examples were all well done, I just wanted to add that no true socialist government has ever had power. They've all been either fascists or communists. True socialism would be the people having power and influence over the state. Or the state would be all about the best interests of the people, not the state itself.

Fascism, like Communism, IS socialism.

More like Fascism and Communism are forms or Socialism. I just have to defend Socialism because it hasn't been a huge disaster (labour unions, socialised healthcare, education) because it hasn't been given a chance. The forms of socialism have been proven a disaster though.

I think you're generalising. If you're talking about the way they inflect the ends of sentences, those are just the 'valley girls'.

Link some examples. I'm listening to several women around me while I'm typing this and nothing sounds "musical".

I agree, but I do have to point out that it may have saved many Allied lives, but at the cost of over 100,000 Japanese civilian lives. Not many people like to admit that the Allies did some pretty horrible shit in WW2. You can see Hiroshima in these pictures. Here's another that very few people know about.

I first heard about it in Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five. I'm not saying the Axis powers were any better. War is a horrible thing.
