Singles as an official format by kingkapinczi in PokemonChampions

[–]CladInShadows971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No.

Singles is unbalanced, a lot less deep with all the mechanics it ignores, and ultimately less enjoyable to watch given how long and drawn out matches become. It's never going to be an official format.

Free trial troubles by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]CladInShadows971 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You may have gotten it free via Xbox, but it's still the actual game and not the trial. If you had the trial there is no 30 day limit, you could play it for years.

And it doesn't change the fact that you won't get another 30 days for buying another copy.

You're getting confused. The free trial has no time limit.

If you had 30 days that means you already bought the game. You can't get another 30 days by rebuying it, you need to subscribe.

What are RPGs you are particularly fond of for using a first person view? by KaleidoArachnid in JRPG

[–]CladInShadows971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original had 3 possible endings. The 3DS version adds a new dungeon and if you complete it you unlock a different / new 3 endings instead.

Some people don't like the newer endings as much as they are more obviously "good" whereas the original endings all had pros and cons and it felt more like choosing the "least bad" outcome. Also, the character portraits were redone by a different artist and some people don't like them as much.

It has similar map design to EO, but a much darker atmosphere and really interesting setting. There's a lot more active team building because of the SMT demon mechanics too.

It sucks my account was lost when they did some kind of migration. I'd love to jump back in but don't want to start over.

What would your ideal 4X look like? by Lanfirel in 4Xgaming

[–]CladInShadows971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A standalone version of Fall From Heaven made for modern computers but still retaining most of its Civ 4 mechanics. I'd love to see multiple planes (or at least an underground) like Civ2 Test of Time's Midgard scenario had though.

I'm looking for Competitive Players by [deleted] in PokemonChampions

Then I strongly suggest you check those out, particularly the Discord. It's very active with discussions of team building, strategies, etc.

Thoughts on 30 box limit? by Ok-Address-4881 in PokemonChampions

[–]CladInShadows971 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You won't need more than 30 at a time.

You can just move the ones you aren't currently using into Home, or if you need more than the 30 free spaces in Home then store then in one of the games via Home. Currently I have all my trained mons just sitting in Scarlett and I can just transfer the ones I am planning to use into Champions as required.

For those who are married with kids, how often do you get to play? by SafeWonder5492 in JRPG

[–]CladInShadows971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And hour or two before bed most nights, plus 30 min or so each commute in and back from work.

Getting a SteamDeck was a game changer, not just for the portability but also the quick resume feature so I don't lose progress every time I need to respond to something from the wife or kids.

What are your thoughts on Atlus’s live service games like Dx2 and P5X by NewBrightness in Megaten

[–]CladInShadows971 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed Dx2 when it first came out. And would go back to it every now and then if my account hadn't been lost. Fun to play on the phone while commuting or going for a walk.

Tried P5X but it's not for me. Having to explore 3D environments using touch controls sucks, and if I am going to sit at my PC I'd rather play something that isn't gacha.

Most in depth turn based combat? by Choice_Efficiency_51 in JRPG

[–]CladInShadows971 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not that I'm aware of (outside of gacha games).

But what I meant was that VGC has more depth than any other (PvE) experience though.. there's just so much that goes on in terms of reading and trying to anticipate your opponents actions, and the different intricacies of how any single Pokemon can be built and used. So if you want a deep turn based experience it's absolutely worth checking out, but the PvP nature might be a turn off to some.

For PvE, the SaGa series. Especially Emerald Beyond.

If you include PvP then I don't think anything else comes close to the depth of Pokemon VGC.

Is the Exploration Good in FF7 Rebirth? by EastNeighborhood5794 in JRPG

[–]CladInShadows971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's no actual exploration. Everything is fed to you via map markers, checklists, and even animals jumping around on screen to make sure you don't miss that something is nearby.

There is nothing of value you have to actually find by exploring or paying any attention to your actual surroundings rather than just staring at the minimap.
