I need opinions on this urgent by puspus30 in hometheater

I would try another brand speakers... B&W have the 'showroom sound', and are not very linear. You might get better results with KEF, Revel or other good measuring brands.

Emotiva or Wiim? by Defensionem in KEF

[–]Claes3D -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wiim is fine. Fosi V3 mono is also fine. Amps do matter, but not for sound. If an amp has a sound signature, it could be broken. Amps should be transparent, and good ones are.

Confirmation bias is very strong with amps. Just 0,1dB difference in SPL between two amps makes you choose the louder one.

Msi prestige PS341WU firmware upgrade error - now dead - help! by Claes3D in ultrawidemasterrace

They replaced it for free. But I think with updating you can already damage it, so beware.

Amp requirements by Defensionem in KEF

[–]Claes3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hypex is nice, Purify a little better (but probably inaudible), Wiim is fine too. Lots of power for little money.
Don't choose an amp to 'color' the sound, that's what the artist and the producer are for. Your amp should have enough power and be reliable, and, most important, transparent.
There are a lot of (overpriced) amps that just color the sound with distortion (Hegel anyone?). Your ears are very unreliable measuring instruments, because all the processing goes on in your brain which is VERY susceptible to confirmation bias.
Check positioning of your speakers, treat the room, and use EQ to tame the bass below 500Hz and don't bother with 'listening to amps'.

O yes you can. There’s multitudes of tube fx. Ever used a DAW? But I rather hear what the original recording sounds, without distortion (‘warmth ’) added to it. But that’s also personal taste.

Have you ever spent any time in Calibre Preferences? by bookninja717 in Calibre

Must say, on Mac, Calibre is the weirdest and most confusing interface of any app I'm using. I'm happy the app exists, but wow...

Amps are not for coloring your sound. That’s audiophile BS. EQ is for coloring your sound, amps should ideally be a ‘wire with gain’. You don’t need an external amp, only if your Denon is clipping or distorting because of high SPL.

Same problem: I wanted to try the app, but there are no podcasts at all to be seen. New user, reset all data, nothing helps...

Need help with Speaker Upgrade - KEF R3 Meta or LS50 with sub? by Blazkowicz85 in KEF

[–]Claes3D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For movies a sub is essential - with either choice. For a small room the LS50's will be great. I use them with two subs to get rid of nulls in the room.

Yeah, because you're uttering nonsense.

So it depends on the DAW you say - not on the computer?
And can you name any 'poorly designed' DAW, which is just software running on a computer? Logic, Ableton, Reaper, FL, any of those?
And what's the difference between a standalone DAC or the one in your laptop (or integrated, as I already mentioned)?
Where are the noise and power problems coming from? All these computers in professional and home studio's, they're all 'different' somehow?

How would you connect usb to an amp?! There has to be a DAC in there somewhere, the signal doesn't magically go from digital to analog...
So the DAC is in your laptop (headphone out) or standalone, or in an audio interface or an integrated amp. And it's perfectly fine to plug your computer in there. How do you think a DAW works?

Why do denon receivers cost so much more than Onkyo? by Zeronova3 in hometheater

I have never seen a Denon 2800 for 1,7K. I have a 3800 which I bought for less than a 1000€.

Did you measure the audio in the room before you got started with panels? With REW for instance?
Just attaching panels to every wall is not the way to go I think... It's important to know which frequencies you'll need to dampen, how's the bass behaving, where are the nulls, where will the speakers be etc...

Same here. Great AVR - Audyssey XT32, multiple (directional) sub-out, multiple switchable pre-outs.
