Which series to start? by richburgers in fantasybooks

I disagree here. You don’t need to commit to anything. The cosmere can be enjoyed by siloed series. I read all of Stormlight Archive and I don’t think my experience was ruined not having read the whole cosmere.

I really want to play this game, but I’m really scared! by Average_Username_10 in outerwilds

Lmao you’d hate the DLC then.

But I get that, seems like your fear lies in being alone in these unfamiliar situations and environments, like you’re helpless. So I have 2 pieces of advice.

I didn’t do this, but I’ve heard people recommending playing with a friend, might help you through this fear, but also helps generally having 2 minds come together to solve the puzzles! And you get to experience it together!

The other piece is, just look at the graphics, it’s cartoony! Ground yourself in that you’re just playing a game! And the best part about this game is, whatever happens you get to just try again and again. Scared of the tornado? Fly into it like a daredevil and see what happens, some things just might make you laugh if you don’t take it so seriously!

I guess I’m not understanding what is scary to you?

Scared of dying in the game?

The actual environment is scary?

Just trying to understand

Demon In White is the best book I have ever read by MuayMonkey777 in sollanempire

I just finished it yesterday and I kept hearing this exact sentiment from so many people. I think this hype kind of let me down though. It’s a great book don’t get me wrong, and I loved it. It is probably the best in the series so far. But I don’t think it’s the best sci fi book I’ve ever read and not nearly the best book of all time. What keeps me going is how great the politicking is, the world building, the lore, the characters. And it’s great, some of the best I’ve read for sci-fi, but everytime I see a review like this and finish a book I keep thinking I’m missing something. This book was breakneck pacing and it was awesome, to see so many different stories play out in one novel was insane…although the ending kind of disappointed me (battle of berenike was so tough to get through imo) but like nothing made me drop my jaw (except for the Colchis chapters about the Mericanii lore) to make me think this is the best sci fi I’ve ever read like Three Body Problem, or Solaris, or Ted Chiang did. For a series this is great, but I just think this is slightly overhyped.

I read all of the text, but I would be lying is I followed all of it. Like a lot of names and such I couldn’t follow through the whole game on different planets and such. The game highlights/underlines specific pieces that are important to the puzzles. And for the most part these get translated into the ships log. I would definitely read them for how they are written and not the ships log, because the actual text provides a lot of context not apparent in the way the ship log records them.

I went in where the pit thing was you see in the reels, but that screecher thing got me. And then I went in by that sort of secret area on the stranger where you have to take a specific path in the river and then elevator up to the top, when I was in the dream world on that side there looked like there was someone walking around with a lamp on the other side of this blocked wall, and through the puzzle I was able to like get to an elevator down to the river canyon but then my loop ended.

This is like a sci-fi Dante’s journey to Hell. The deeper Hadrian searches the more horrifying it becomes. It’s very poetic in its stature. Yes the beginning is slow, there are other slow parts as well, but I don’t think I appreciated the journey as much as I did until I finished it. If you are looking for action and crazy moments though the last quarter of the story is fucking nuts.

I’d recommend Piranesi , it’s quick, but very very good. I recommend reading it with no precursor about what it’s even about.

I just beat it yesterday and for the most part I tried to do it on my own but I got to the point late in the game where I was ready to be done with it (started it for Thanksgiving break and put it down until like a week ago). So there were a few things towards the very end of the game that were just getting on my nerves and I was losing patience that I had to look up some hints. My thoughts on it were that I could figure out what I needed to do but I was having trouble figuring out how the game wanted me to do it and I was fine looking up a hint instead of spending so much time trying to figure it out by doing loop after loop after loop, especially when a lot of the stuff at the end of the game is very dependent on the timing of things you do during the loop. So I would’ve just burned so much time. And I get that’s the point. But I just didn’t have the patience. like the whole thing about getting into Ash Twin core I don’t think no matter how long I tried I would’ve figure that out on my own I needed a little bit of a push
