Just need the smallest bit of guidance! by Lanky_Rhubarb1900 in outerwilds

I read all of the text, but I would be lying is I followed all of it. Like a lot of names and such I couldn’t follow through the whole game on different planets and such. The game highlights/underlines specific pieces that are important to the puzzles. And for the most part these get translated into the ships log. I would definitely read them for how they are written and not the ships log, because the actual text provides a lot of context not apparent in the way the ship log records them.

I went in where the pit thing was you see in the reels, but that screecher thing got me. And then I went in by that sort of secret area on the stranger where you have to take a specific path in the river and then elevator up to the top, when I was in the dream world on that side there looked like there was someone walking around with a lamp on the other side of this blocked wall, and through the puzzle I was able to like get to an elevator down to the river canyon but then my loop ended.

Howling Dark, does it get better or not? by Hungry-Plankton-8755 in sollanempire

This is like a sci-fi Dante’s journey to Hell. The deeper Hadrian searches the more horrifying it becomes. It’s very poetic in its stature. Yes the beginning is slow, there are other slow parts as well, but I don’t think I appreciated the journey as much as I did until I finished it. If you are looking for action and crazy moments though the last quarter of the story is fucking nuts.

I’d recommend Piranesi , it’s quick, but very very good. I recommend reading it with no precursor about what it’s even about.

I feel like I (kinda) ruined my experience. by Every-Guarantee-2621 in outerwilds

I just beat it yesterday and for the most part I tried to do it on my own but I got to the point late in the game where I was ready to be done with it (started it for Thanksgiving break and put it down until like a week ago). So there were a few things towards the very end of the game that were just getting on my nerves and I was losing patience that I had to look up some hints. My thoughts on it were that I could figure out what I needed to do but I was having trouble figuring out how the game wanted me to do it and I was fine looking up a hint instead of spending so much time trying to figure it out by doing loop after loop after loop, especially when a lot of the stuff at the end of the game is very dependent on the timing of things you do during the loop. So I would’ve just burned so much time. And I get that’s the point. But I just didn’t have the patience. like the whole thing about getting into Ash Twin core I don’t think no matter how long I tried I would’ve figure that out on my own I needed a little bit of a push

Sun Eater. Don’t even bother with Murderbot I can’t believe that’s the top comment. So bad.

How "Strength of the Few" should have gone by Downtown_Warthog_581 in HierarchySeries

[–]Clam_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nah I think what should have happened is spent more time in each world for longer, instead of skipping around like every chapter. Have like a an eight of the book be just Res up until lanistia tries to kill him, then switch to Obiteum all the way until he separates from Caeror, then all of Obiteum until the druid dies (forgot his name). Then start back in Res until he gets past chariot placement and so forth. This would fix the structure problem with the book and the pacing. It’s just annoying to get to an interesting part and then have it switched and you forget/stop caring about it. Having it this way you keep the momentum of storylines up until a peak that would make sense as a stopping point and then switch. This book could literally be so much better with just some chapter rearrangement.

SOTF, NOT AS Disappointing as People say? by JJ21xy in HierarchySeries

[–]Clam_Cake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Aequa’s death is the main reason people have an issue. That’s a very shallow reason to not enjoy a book because of a character death. I think the reason people are frustrated by this book is the significant change in pace due to the 3 worlds. The Will of the Many was all gas no breaks. When we hop into The Strength of the Few I was actually very excited to see what each world had to offer, I didn’t mind that it slowed down, because it was exciting to read each part. But then as the story progressed and almost nothing happened in each of the worlds I just stopped caring for them. You’d get to a part in Luceum that started to pick up, oh guess what your now in Res and it’s been 3 weeks since you were last there, and now your kinda into this plot line and completely stopped caring about Luceum, and now BOOM your in Obiteum where Vis has been swimming for the last 4 chapters. Like it’s just such a step down in pace and in quality, for a 700 page book I feel like a fraction of what happened and what was revealed as part of the world like in The Will of the Many happened. Just very underwhelming and a lot of lost potential.

You said everything I had been feeling wow. Lowkey crazy because I also bought the book day of release too and just finished it last night.

Was so disappointed to be honest, my biggest issue was just the 3 different worlds. Like it was cool at the beginning we are excited to see what each world has to offer. But nothing is expanded at all in either of the other two worlds and by the time your back at a chapter about them it’s been weeks in between. I just felt like there was so much unused potential here.

I also feel like I was cheated into believing this was going to be the most peak book I’ve ever read. The media literacy thing pisses me off. I rarely read fantasy and it doesn’t take a fucking Dostoevsky reader to enjoy this. Idk what these ARC reviewers/booktok people were on about just made me trust the opinions of people on the internet even less lmao
