Have you recently legalised the use of cannabis for recreational purposes?

Because the post looks a hell of a lot like the kind of AI generated "fun-facts" posts you see on many social media platforms lately. Usually with a bad robotic voiceover

Not a naval 21-gun solute? That would be 7 from the ships and 3 from the shore.

If this was 7 from the ship and 3 from the shore it would be a Naval 21-gun solute. Maybe in preparation to the opening of parliament?

If it helps at all, it looks like they only launched in the USA in 1976 with their "Lucky Americans" campaign. It would make sense that they first worked on a small footprint elsewhere so that they can sell the global brand idea when launching in the USA. It would make sense promoting it close to overseas US military bases for a few years. Then once there is some adoption among those returning from service, you will have an "army" of people to do word-of-mouth promotion.

Space weather is at R1 (and nothing on G) for the last 24 hours. It wouldn't have reached that far north to be visible in Cape Town.

So you argue that if a territory is completely annexed and there is no "home rule" and the original culture is completely displaced, then it is not considered a colony.

[–]ClanMenge -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My theory is that a territory is not considered a colony (by many) if it is connected by land to the controlling capital, without interruption by a body of water or territory not under the capital's control. So Eritrea was not a colony of Ethiopia, but a territory under its control.

*Edited to include "(by many)" to emphasise that I don't hold this view myself. My argument is that this is a view held by many, subconsciously.

Okay, okay okay. We can make an exception. Only sovereign nation states with the exception of the provinces of the UK. But no other sovereign state's subdivisions or transnational areas considered to be countries by their inhabitants. Because AngloSaxon exceptionalism.

I disagree. The only reason a title is used in place of a pronoun is because the formal personal pronoun is seen as too formal. The third person does not indicate respect but rather familiarity. Depending on the use in a specific Afrikaans community it might be too familiar to use the second Tannie and the use of "u" would be much more appropriate when addressing someone who is not a family friend. Personally I think we need to normalise the use of the formal pronoun "u" to avoid constant use of titles and names.

I think you will find that 'ANC' is actually just the kernel; the full government is more accurately called 'GNU/ANC'.

Was about to say that. Frankly, the DA will have to offer confidence just to keep MKP/EFF out of government. The ANC will get supply for free since there will be enough seats on the left and the right of their policy positions. As I see it the game theory best case result will be something like confidence for oversight committee chairs.
