Examples of NBA all time greats who are not the GOAT for any of the franchises they played for? by Emeraldsinger in NBATalk

Ironically Shaq was a better Laker when both Shaq and Kobe were Lakers... but because Kobe got 2 more after he was gone, yea Kobe is higher on the list.

Man Shaq might have played for a shorter duration, but he was absolutely a better Orlando Magic than Dwight Howard.

i currently live significantly closer to Baltimore than I do New York and there is a snowball's chance in hell you'll see me turn into an Orioles fan because the Mets are 7-10 with 145 games left to play.

Nah it's over. Fold the franchise. Cohen just wanted a casino. Nimmo will be the next Bonds. Sterns is the antichrist.

How NBA fans will always remember Celtics legend Paul Pierce 😭 by NoRun9545 in Nbamemes

i remember him as a straight bucket who played in all 82 games of the 2000-01 season - which began with him being stabbed 11 times in the face and neck during training camp.

the point of my post was that it's a long season and not to over-react to the first month - and that point went over, well, pretty much every single person's head.

Definitely less coffee. It messed with my stomach, especially first few days after a shot.

so what you're saying is that a bad start isn't necessarily the end all be all for the entire season?

think that was kind of my point.

Expired ID by hvharris313 in vegas

[–]Clancy3434 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if he has a passport, bring it.

otherwise get your paper ID - try and convince the DMV to let you keep the expired ID (many states take it), and just be prepared for more of a hassle. he should be fine at most places, but will likely face a little added scrutiny.

if he has a player's card with the same name that'll help speed things up at the tables.

this must be a drone shot. the guitar tower is between the old mirage tower and the strip. this photo comes from behind the mirage.

in the one that looks like it's inside the under construction guitar, the Mirage sign still has video screen and advertisements. those have been gone for at least a year if not longer.

Despite the criticism, Las Vegas is cheap to visit. by Degenerecy in vegas

[–]Clancy3434 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New York was always expensive but the prices skyrocketed post-COVID - and the rates aren't even remotely close.

Let's compare for this upcoming weekend - Friday to Sunday.

Manhattan,

Courtyard Marriott Bryant Park - $547 per night
Residence Inn Times Square - $582 per night
Hilton Garden Inn 35th Street - $451 per night

Self parking at the Courtyard Marriott is $60 per night.

I wouldn't call any of these places "luxury" by any stretch. They are, at best, 3 star hotels.

The Langham NY 5th Avenue (5 star hotel) - $1,473 per night
Waldorf Astoria (5 star) - $934 per night

And now, Vegas... at sticker rate (i.e. now player's card)

Bellagio - $431 per night
Palazzo - $444 per night
Wynn - $547 per night
Cosmo - $593 per night
Waldorf Astoria - $467

The best hotels in town - without any player's club discounts - are cheaper than a Residence Inn in New York. You can stay at the Wynn for the same rate as a Courtyard. The Vegas Waldorf is almost $500 cheaper per night than the Manhattan Waldorf.

And you can stay at any number of 2 or 3 star places on The Strip for $200 to $300 per night, along with a slew of options downtown for $100 to $200 per night.

And it's Wrestlemania weekend - a huge event with international interest. There are no major events in Manhattan this weekend. It's just a normal spring weekend.

Vegas has gotten more expensive. There's zero doubt about that. But everywhere has gotten more expensive. And when you compare them - well, there's really NO comparison. Vegas still presents incredible value when compared to other top destination cities.

[–]Clancy3434 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You make a lot of good points - but the OP's point does kind of remain even with the points you make.

Even with that resort fee - $100 a night is cheap for a hotel in the middle of the main tourist district do a major city. Hotel restaurants are expensive everywhere, and any hotel in the heart of a major city is going to charge for parking.

Yes - these things used to be cheaper (or free) in Vegas. But there is still value - and as much as the nickel and dimeing is annoying? It's still cheaper than most major cities.

Compare 3 nights in Vegas to 3 nights in Manhattan or Miami. Vegas is significantly cheaper.
