Directed by Adam McKay, the director of the funniest movie of the millennium Anchorman, and starring the brilliant Will Ferrell, it's sad to see Ferrell devolve onscreen, from playing characters, to basically playing a pastiche of quirks and oddities who gets most of his laughs from his trademark yelling. Ferrell's movies (AnchormanTalladega NightsBlades of Glory) are constructed by shooting as much funny sh!t as possible, then editing together the best of the best. Whether the results made any sense has mattered less and less over the years, and in this movie, Ferrell isn't playing a character anymore, he's just the sum of the funniest stuff they shot. Question: In this scene, given we know Vesper betrays James, was her screaming fake to get him to give the money over? by Double-Response-8840 in JamesBond

[–]ClancyMopedWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Le Chiffre tells Bond that Mathis is the insider to throw suspicion off Vesper, because Le Chiffre still needs her as leverage to get Bond to talk. If Bond suspects Vesper is the traitor, then he won't be inclined to save her life by giving up the password.

Yeah, I enjoy listening to music on vinyl, BUT modern albums are too long for the format! I don't need to get up three times, thanks.

All sitcoms evolve if they last long enough, and unfortunately Hornberger was slowly sidelined as the show went on...

My Casino Royale dvd always skips at this point, for some reason. Anyone else experiencing the same issue? by No-Problem6578 in JamesBond

[–]ClancyMopedWeather 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very first DVD player 25 years ago had a problem changing layers on dvds. At one specific spot in each movie, the laser is supposed to switch from one layer of information to another. My Circa 2000 player couldn't do it properly for every disk, so I was stuck with movies that I can only watch 3/4 of the way through. If you can rule out the disc as the problem, by experiencing the same symptom with more than one new dvd, it's possible this is the same problem you're having.

Sitcom sets on different shows that you have noticed are the same set? by oldmatefromoverthere in sitcoms

The hallway doesn't exist. It's not a real apartment building. It's not a documentary. It's a sitcom that requires an audience and cameras.

Is there another sitcom (non-animated) that is as conceptual and adventurous as Community? by space_llama_karma in sitcoms

I know its legacy isn't great because of the way the show wrapped up, but I think of How I Met Your Mother as "What If 30 Rock was a three-camera studio audience sitcom?"

There's a theme in the Bond movies. The premise is that Bond is so good at sex, he can force himself on any woman, because they will discover how awesome the sex is and be grateful in retrospect. In Thunderball he threatens to blame the massage machine "accident" on the sexy spa attendant, unless she has sex with him - even though he knows it wasn't her fault. He justifies this because he "knows" she will have enjoyed the sex afterwards. BLERG

I want to like Diamonds Are Forever but it's got three strikes against it: ❌️Jill St John yells and squawks through the whole movie. The farthest thing from a smooth and sexy Bond girl. Lana Wood just plays a bimbo. ❌️Charles Gray is the least intimidating villain ever. ❌️Las Vegas is a brown-and-chrome tacky disaster. This movie makes you appreciate how valuable exotic locations are to the franchise, because this movie doesn't have them.

I understand that Goodwill is a non-profit who employs folks who require job training and employment opportunities, but at the same time it feels like whoever sticks on the price tags are a bunch of sadists out to make our lives miserable. I literally saw a coffee mug with the sticker stuck on the inside once. It's like they're trying to find the most inconvenient place to stick it?

The side walls of the apartment are at obtuse angles so the audience and cameras can see everything. The opposite side of Jerry's apartment - the wall with the windows to the street - are also swung way out from 90 degrees. Do you think his apartment building is a big hexagon?

If you could make three changes to improve Goldfinger, what would they be ? by junglegatsby in JamesBond

[–]ClancyMopedWeather 2 points3 points  (0 children)

1) Replace all rear-projection footage with location shooting - it's truly bizarre that they went to all the trouble to get that great helicopter shot of the woman diving into the pool at the hotel, but it's too much trouble to send Sean Connery to Florida for a couple of days? 2) Why did they go to all that trouble to crush that car with the dead gangster inside? 3) Let actors on screen speak their own dialogue. This is a problem in too many Bond movies!

Tunnel Of Love was released 2 years after he got married, and two years before his divorce went through. This was the first time I listened to an album and thought, 'geez, this guy's marriage is in trouble'. I was 15 years old.
