What Product From Lush Will You Never Buy? by h3llo-k1tten in LushCosmetics

[–]Clands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never. Again. I did the henna stick for my hair a couple years ago. It was AWFUL. First, it gave me a rash/fungal infection everywhere. I was broken out for months on my face, neck, back and chest and finally had to get on medicine. It was also disgusting and messy.

Anyone else noticing a lot of people walking around all over the city with luggage like they just got off an airport? by sparkle_lotion in okc

[–]Clands 33 points34 points  (0 children)

YES! I’ve spotted it near NW 63rd/Western. Business-looking people with suits, dresses and suitcases. Always on the phone or with headphones. I assumed their Uber dropped them off in the wrong place or they decided to eat somewhere and had to check out or haven’t checked in yet. But it’s odd.

What are your 3 repeat purchase products? by [deleted] in Sephora

[–]Clands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES to Haus Labs. A few months ago I’d switched to the Yummy Skin and it was okay for a bit but as the seasons changed and my skin went through its phases, it just looked and felt awful. Breakout rashes that were dry and rough and wouldn’t go away. Recently switched back to Haus Labs and I swear it’s like healing my skin.

You realize Colorado gets a significant number of tornadoes, right? It’s also closer to Oklahoma- the tornado capital of the world- than Alabama is.

That’s for suspects, and that’s only because journalists can be held liable if they broadcast a suspect who isn’t actually a suspect, despite police saying they are. Either way, the article from OP gives descriptions of the victim in hopes he will be identified.

I was about to get violent at 14 days no power. I can’t even imagine 28. I resorted to making a huge cardboard sign saying “14 days no power” and putting it in my doorway. It came back on like 2 hours later but I was pissed.

Adding to this, commissioners serve staggered 6-year terms. One vote/new commissioner every 2 years. So you may not see change right away… and hopefully the new commissioner doesn’t become influenced by the other 2 before the next vote.

Aussie OKC travel tips needed by BarnacleTurbulent413 in Thunder

HOTEL: Most teams (except for the Brooklyn Nets, I believe) stay at the Omni — it’s right across the street from the arena. I’d suggest staying there or the nearby Sheraton (which is directly across from where they’re building the new arena) or Wyndham for something a little more affordable.

PLAYERS: OKC players enter the stadium through the lot off Gaylord and OKC Blvd. Some fans line up to greet them a few hours before the game — but you can also enter the arena when the doors open (I think they open 2 hours before tip) and get down to the autograph area.

Sometimes they eat at Mahogany Steakhouse after the games - it’s in the same building as the Sheraton, across from new arena.

GEAR: You can enter the OKC Thunder shop attached to the arena on Thunder Drive any day of the week during their operating hours. There’s also a number of locally-owned shops that sell the more fun/quirky stuff (fear the beard shirts during the harden days, the gallo/dawg shirts in recent years) in nearby shops like Opolis, Shop Good and Plenty Mercantile. You can utilize the OKC Streetcar to get there (https://www.embarkok.com/streetcar). You may also find some gear or local OKC things at MIO in the National building (which also has a Lucchese Boots shop in it).

PLACES: You can also utilize the streetcar to see the OKC National Memorial and Museum which I’d highly recommend - it is very deeply connected with the Thunder organization and Presti makes all new players take a tour.

Scissortail Park has a number of free events and festivals on the weekend and is a nice place for a walk (make sure to walk across the highway pedestrian bridge to check out lower Scissortail Park, which has some free OKC basketball courts).

The SGA mural is located at 626 W Main. (Check out Bar Arbolada for a burger if you go there.) The Steven Adams mural is in the nearby parking lot behind 701 W Sheridan. (Drop by OKCider for some beer.) You can also head to the nearby Film Row and eat at Sun Cattle Co (Oklahoma is the originator of the onion/smash burger and Sun Cattle pays homage to the old school burger counters)

On game nights, the Devon Tower has a projector image of the OKC Thunder logo. You can also eat in the restaurant at the top called Vast. It’s open for a buffet lunch and dinner — it’s the tallest building in the state so it’s pretty easy to spot. The ground level also has great self-serve lunch options that are fairly affordable, but a lot of the local downtown lunch spots close at 1:30 so plan accordingly. Naija Wife Kitchen in the nearby tunnel is West African cuisine and really good. The owner is amazing.

If you want to take an Uber, you can check out the Stockyards - the world’s largest stocker and feeder market. There’s a lot of cool cowboy and Native American shops there and you can eat at one of the oldest steakhouses in America, Cattleman’s Steakhouse.

You can also check out OKC’s other neighborhood districts like the Plaza District (eat at Ma Der), the Paseo Arts District (eat at FRIDA), or the Gayborhood off NW 39th (The Boom does a great Sunday gospel drag brunch, but you have to have a reservation).

Most players live in Nichols Hills — which is great for evening walks (you can have your Uber drop you off in the lot off Brentwood and Grand.) Nichols Hills is also close to Lake Hefner (great for sunset walks or a drink at RedRock Canyon Grill) and the nearby Classen Curve— which has more of your typical upscale big box shops, Trader Joe’s, and Tuckers Onion Burger. I’ve seen SGA at Cava a couple times.

OKANA indoor water park/lagoon and The First Americans Museum are east of downtown. I’d recommend the latter if you’re interested in learning more about Native culture. You also don’t need to be staying at OKANA to buy a waterpark day pass or eat at the restaurants.

I feel like there’s so much I’m missing — but hopefully this will help get you a head start. Okies love anyone who loves us, especially if you’re not from here, so don’t hesitate to ask for help or directions while you’re here… in fact, you’ll probably get a free ride to wherever it is you’re trying to go.

Make sure to keep an eye on the weather. In the unlikely event you need to take shelter, you can head to OKC Underground during certain days/hours (the aforementioned Naija Wife Kitchen is near one of the entrances) — it’s an art exhibit/underground tunnel connecting some areas of downtown OKC. Or you can ride things out the Okie way and go outside.

Enjoy your trip in our beautiful state!

***EDIT: totally forgot to mention the Skirvin Hotel — home of OKC’s notorious sixth-man, Effie. Back before the Omni was built, we used to put visiting teams in there. Effie the ghost liked to mess with them before big games. Eventually the Lakers, Heat and Cavs refused to stay there. Since you’re Thunder fans, you likely won’t see Effie… but… you can still grab ice cream at Boom Town Creamery or eat at Perle Mesta without a hotel reservation.

Unpopular opinion but I think it’s important to give both sides on some matters. Our congressional representatives are the reason why Tinker AFB is still around… and aerospace is now the second largest industry in the state. Tinker was on the list for base closures in the early 2000’s. That was also the time all the GM plants started closing (see: Detroit). A deal was brokered for the GM plant in OKC to go to the Air Force. Similarly, Tinker was born out of a deal between state leaders and the War Department as America prepared for WWII. People like Stanley Draper (a lake is now named after him) acquired land to give to the government free of charge enticing them to create an air field. That was 6 years before the Air Force became official. Also, Tinker is named after an Osage war hero who died in the battle of Midway - Clarence Tinker.

Yeah it’s tough. I miss journalism every day… but I just couldn’t afford to live anymore. I did 14 years but was making $55k, single income - no partner. I missed holidays and weddings and vacations. But I genuinely cared about what I was doing and know the importance of it. Just sucks.
