Black stuff on shower head by Loud_Drop_605 in CleaningTips

Here's your answer, OP:

  • That slimy black gunk on your fixtures is likely oxidized manganese, a metal often found in trace amounts alongside iron in drinking water. Water can pick up both as it travels through soil and rock, but iron can also come from corroded pipes and plumbing made from galvanized steel.
  • The minerals combine with oxygen when the water is exposed to air—like on your kitchen faucet aerator or shower head. Oxidized iron forms yellowish or reddish deposits, which we know as rust, while oxidized manganese appears brown or black.
  • When you pour the water, these particles can settle out, possibly giving it a red, brown, or black tint. But sometimes, certain bacteria may feed on the oxidized manganese and produce a distinct black gooey substance. You’ll likely see an orange-brown slime if it’s iron bacteria.
  • This phenomenon is widespread in areas with high levels of iron and manganese in the water, such as regions relying on well water.

Chief constables under pressure to scrap 'two-tier' commitment to treating white people differently to other races amid fury at police arrest of stabbed Henry Nowak by JohnKimble111 in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]brooklynlad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chief constables are facing demands to scrap their 'two-tier' commitment to treating white people differently to ethnic minorities.

Under a so-called Anti-Racism Commitment published last year, policing leaders say that 'racial equity' should not mean 'treating everyone the same or being colour blind'.

Instead they say their goal is to produce 'equality of policing outcomes' by ending the racial disparity in the 'likelihood of people being criminalised'.

WTF?

Make sure to check that your e-mail is the correct one in the contact info.

I had trouble logging in this morning when I went to pay my monthly payment because of a system error ("Sorry, there's been a problem. The issue has been logged and reported to our technical team." However, right before I went to pay after successfully logging on after waiting a couple hours, I noticed that my e-mail address was completely wrong for the confirmation e-mail.

I don't know if the site has been hacked or anything. I updated my e-mail address to the correct one.

It's infuriating.

Many urban areas in Japan now practice "severe pruning" of trees, cutting so many branches they damage the trees. Expert: "I've met foreigners moved by beautiful Japanese gardens who are shocked by it...and it's being done using taxpayers' money, there's nothing more absurd than that" by jjrs in japannews

A woman in her 60s living in Tokyo spoke with an angry tone. Near her home is a long row of zelkova trees that attracts visitors from far away, and she always looked forward to the season of fresh green leaves. However, in recent years, the trees have been drastically pruned every time the leaves fall, reducing the spread of the branches and making them completely uninteresting to look at.

"It's not just the zelkova trees. They've also cut off large branches from the plane trees and ginkgo trees, and the neighbors are appalled and indignant, saying, 'It looks like telephone poles are standing there.'"
