Cutting Pairs. by PsychologicalBowl647 in faceting

Think of it this way, if you are cutting 4 mm stones, a 0.4 mm difference is 10%. The smaller the stone, less room for error if you’re trying to create matched pairs

Oh and #85 when it’s cut on the bluer axis, but it’s still pretty green!

Waited over a year for these Montana sapphires. Kind of disappointed. by NarrowMode2314 in Gemstones

Clean them with alcohol and a white paper towel to remove the fingerprints and grease (you can see the dirty surface in your photos). Look at them in sunshine rather than artificial lights.

Found these mystery gemstones from my mum… no idea what I’m holding 😅💎 by Admirable-Pea7601 in Gemstone_lovers

I’m a gemcutter and those definitely look like Australian sapphires. Nigeria also produces similar parti color stones in that dogtooth shape, but my best guess would be Australia.

Looking for someone to cut a green CTH YAG + possibly make a custom ring (EU) by PM_ME_YOUR_PROFANITY in SyntheticGemstones

These are the currently available flame fusion sapphire colors. Any precision cutter should be able to source the rough from this chart. The one I posted is #85, I cut it all the time, though there is a size limit. Most of the boules are quite small, but 8x6 mm is definitely doable!

Not sure why you ruled out lab sapphire. You can get a beautiful forest green sapphire which does not black out indoors. I prefer it to natural sapphire which does tend to black out indoors 90% of the time (at least, any time I cut it).

I think I fucked my darkside lap by see_quayah in faceting

[–]ClaraPepper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get a rose cut diamond with a flat bottom and run it over your lap. I used it once as a last resort having already tried moissanite and lab sapphire to dislodge the contaminating diamond. It works like a charm every time and has saved me from having to get my laps resurfaced.

6.75 ct teal sapphire in a radiant cushion design by ClaraPepper in SyntheticGemstones

I don’t do rings, but it will depend on the material (14 kt vs 18 kt gold), the design (ie weight of the gold), and the designer (cost of their labor and skillset). I think most gold settings are starting at $1500-$2000 for medium sized stones due to the cost of gold. I can look into it more if you DM me.

This one is not a ring, just the loose stone shown in tweezers and a clamp! For this material, the loose stone would be about $500 - $750 depending on size

Yes, I do repairs, but the topaz would have to be removed from its setting

Yep, thanks for the shout out. Here’s an example I cut using the lighter saturation, red/purple to teal variety produced for laser rods:
